Bio

I am an independent researcher based in Kathmandu, Nepal. I previously worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the National University of Singapore from 2012 to 2020.

My research intersects across key thematic areas of economics - [1] Labor Migration, [2] Ethnic Inequality, and [3] Governance of Infrastructure and Public Programs - with an overarching emphasis on economic development and poverty reduction.

I am currently conducting a labor survey of return migrants in Nepal, designing interventions that improve labor outcomes among migrant workers in Singapore, examining the effects of political institutions on the formation of social identities and ethnic cohesion in Nepal, and running field experiments on incentivizing aid workers and political leaders in Pakistan and India.

I am a native of Nepal, and received my Bachelors of Arts degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and Ph.D. in Economics from University of Michigan.
