Privacy policy
Last updated: 30 July 2026
Noct is built so that the things you write and say stay on your phone. This policy explains exactly what that means, and is honest about the one part of the app that does talk to a server.
The short version
- Your morning notes, voice transcripts, session times and settings are stored only on your device. They are never uploaded, and we cannot see them.
- Speech is transcribed on your phone. If your device cannot do that locally, dictation will not start at all — audio is never sent anywhere instead.
- There are no accounts, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking.
- To manage your subscription, the app communicates with RevenueCat and Apple. That is the only data that leaves your phone.
Who is responsible
Noct is published by Jack McAndrew, an individual developer in Missouri, United States, who is the data controller for the limited processing described below.
You can reach us at mout.apps@gmail.com for any privacy question, request or complaint. We aim to respond within 30 days.
What stays on your device
The following are written to a private database inside the app on your phone. They are not transmitted, and no copy exists anywhere else:
- Morning notes — anything you type or dictate, and the time you saved it.
- Session records — when a wind-down session started and ended.
- Settings — your wind-down sequence, breathing length, haptic strength, voice preference and word category.
Microphone and speech
If you allow it, the app uses your microphone to record a morning note and Apple’s Speech framework to turn it into text. Both happen entirely on your phone.
Apple’s speech recognition is only guaranteed to run locally when your device supports on-device dictation. The app checks this before it starts, and if the answer is no it will not begin recording at all — you can type your note instead. This means audio is never sent to Apple’s servers by this app.
Recordings are not saved. Only the resulting text is stored, and only on your device. Declining microphone access is always fine; typing works the same way.
What leaves your device
To sell and restore subscriptions, the app uses RevenueCat, Inc. as a service provider. Each time the app launches it checks your subscription status, which sends:
- An anonymous identifier randomly generated for your installation. It is not derived from your device or Apple ID, and it changes if you delete and reinstall the app.
- Your App Store purchase receipt, so the subscription can be verified.
- Basic technical details: device model, iOS version, app version and App Store country.
How that data is used
It is used only to determine whether you have an active subscription and to restore purchases. It is not used for advertising, profiling or any form of tracking, and it is never sold or shared for anyone else’s purposes.
RevenueCat processes it on our instructions as a processor under a data processing agreement. Your IP address is visible to them in transit and is used to determine your country, then discarded rather than stored.
Payment itself is handled entirely by Apple. We never see your card details, billing address or Apple ID.
Crash reporting
This version of the app does not include crash reporting, and no diagnostic data is transmitted. If we enable it in a future version, we will update this policy before that version ships.
What we never do
- We do not require or offer an account, so we hold no name, email or password for you.
- We do not use advertising identifiers, and we do not track you across apps or websites.
- We do not send push notifications or marketing messages.
- We do not sell or share personal information.
Keeping and deleting your data
Because your notes and settings live only on your phone, you control them directly. A note can be deleted individually, or all of them cleared at once, from the morning notes screen. Deleting the app removes the entire database, including every note and session record, immediately and permanently. We cannot recover it, because we never had it.
Subscription records held by RevenueCat are retained while your subscription is active and for as long as needed afterwards to honour restores and meet tax and accounting obligations. To request deletion of those records, email us and we will pass the request on.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. For everything stored on your device, you already have direct access and can delete it at any time without asking us.
For the subscription data described above, contact mout.apps@gmail.com and we will action your request. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Our legal bases under UK and EU data protection law are: performance of a contract, to provide the subscription you purchased; and our legitimate interests, to verify entitlements and prevent fraud.
International transfers
RevenueCat is based in the United States. Where data is transferred out of the UK or European Economic Area, it is protected by the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum. You can request a copy of those safeguards from us.
California
This policy is written to satisfy the California Online Privacy Protection Act. The categories of personal information involved, the third parties who receive them, and our retention practices are described above. The effective date appears at the top of this page.
Do Not Track: some browsers and devices offer a "Do Not Track" signal. Because the app does not track users across sites or services at all, it has nothing to change in response to such a signal and does not act on one.
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we do not offer financial incentives for personal information.
Health-related content
What you write in a morning note is yours alone. It is not transmitted, and we have no access to it. We do not collect, use, sell or share consumer health data, and the app does not analyse the content of your notes.
Children
Noct is intended for people aged 13 and over and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with such information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change is significant, tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
