The Venue

Sophus Lie Conference Center, Nordfjordeid

Nordfjordeid is the birth place of Sophus Lie. The conference will take place at Fjordane Folkehøgskule, a boarding school which in the summer break becomes the Sophus Lie Conference Center. The center is a collaboration between Eid kommune and the mathematical departments at NTNU, and the universities of Bergen, Oslo and Tromsø. 

 Accomodation

The Sophus Lie Conference Center offers 9 pavilions. Each has 4 double rooms and 2 single rooms which share a single kitchen and bathroom. 


The price is 1100/980 NOK per night in single/double room in addition to a one-time administrative fee of 245 NOK. This covers 3 meals per day. Payment is done directly to the center on arrival.


Getting there

The following travel information is based on the webpage of the Sophus Lie Conference Center

Plane: The natural place to fly to is Sandane via Oslo or Bergen. There is bus/taxi service from Sandane to Nordfjordeid, which should be prebooked through the conference center before the meeting. The cost of this taxi is paid directly to the conference center. 

Bus: There are buses between Oslo and Nordfjordeid (9 hours), Bergen and Nordfjordeid (7 hours), and Ålesund and Nordfjordeid (3 hours). 

Boat and Bus: There is a good express boat service between Bergen and Måløy, with bus connection between Måløy and Nordfjordeid, it takes about 6 hours in total. It is also possible to take Hurtigruten from Bergen to Måløy.

 The weather

The temperature in July is usually between 12 and 20 degrees (Celsius). Consult the forecast at yr.no a couple of days before arrival, but please be prepared that warm sunny weather can be changed to cold rainy days. We strongly suggest to bring enough warm clothing for your own comfort as it may be sometimes cold in the lecture room.
