The Disney Imagination Campus trip gave Salt Lake Community College choir students an incredible hands-on learning experience. During our visit to Walt Disney World, students participated in Disney’s Soundtrack Sessions: Vocal Workshop, where they worked with Disney music professionals, vocal coaches, and sound engineers in a professional recording studio. They learned vocal techniques, practiced reading music, worked together as an ensemble, and recorded music that was paired with scenes from Disney films. It gave students a chance to see what a real recording session is like and how the skills they learn in class apply in a professional setting.
One of the most meaningful outcomes of the trip was the sense of connection it created among students. Traveling, rehearsing, and learning together gave them opportunities to build friendships and support one another. Students returned with stronger bonds, greater confidence, and a deeper connection to both the choir and Salt Lake Community College.

"The experience gave me the opportunity to participate in something I’d never had the privilege of doing before. Not only have I never been to Disney World, but I’d never met a professional Disney singer, let alone one who enjoyed teaching and coaching. I thoroughly enjoyed having the chance of hearing about Kevin’s personal experiences as a Disney performer, and some of the difficulties it entailed. It’s motivated me to continue developing my ability to sight read, and become confident in my [ability] to do so."
"This experience connects deeply to my personal growth and my journey as a performer. It taught me that precision and authenticity are key when communicating through art, whether through singing or creating foley sounds. Collaborating with my choir partners and the Disney staff in such a high-stakes setting helped me recognize my own ability to adapt to new creative challenges. Moving forward, I feel more confident in my skills and inspired to apply this level of professionalism to my future projects and classes. ."
"Attending Walt Disney World Resort over the last few days ended up being much more meaningful than I expected. I originally thought of the trip as mostly entertainment, but it became a very important experience for me as both a performer and a student. Watching the Festival of the Lion King live show especially impacted me. Seeing the confidence, energy, and professionalism of the performers made me realize how passionate I am about performing. During the show, I had an epiphany that I may want to change my emphasis to Performance because I could picture myself pursuing that path in the future."
