During Winter Break 2023/24, the IT department improved our building by installing more Wi-Fi coverage! For further details on this install, please reach out to helpdesk@sarahlawrence.edu .
For some time, we have provided 3 study rooms that were bookable in advance. In Fall 2023, we upgraded to a more advanced booking system through Skedda that happened to provide us with 2 more bookable spaces! A few commuter students expressed frustration at a lack of bookable study rooms, but the link to book a study room has existed since 2015 on our library homepage. (See screenshot below.)
Skedda provides us with 2 more spaces to book, giving us a total of 5 rooms!
Skedda allows you to see all 5 rooms at once, and what their availability is.
Study rooms are for SLC students ONLY.
You can only use your SLC email address to log-in.
Though patrons can use these rooms without booking, you can be kicked out by someone who already has a booking. Please ask for assistance at the Information Desk if a patron doesn’t abide by this.
Rooms can be booked up to 6 hours per day.
Some have mentioned that you would appreciate more information about how to access and use our Archives. Here are a few notes from our Archives department.
Anyone looking to explore a little bit of college history at their leisure will enjoy the Student Publications exhibit, which is currently on display in the library in the Calder Room close to the Learning Commons. The exhibition, co-curated by Christina Kasman and Lillian Minor ’24, also hosts a Student Publications Reading nook that has yearbooks and literary publications available for browsing whenever the library is open.
Student Life is critical to telling the story of the college, and we actively encourage students to donate materials that record their student experience to the archives. Students may donate individual photos or documents digitally though the Student Life Preservation Project website: https://slcstudentlifeproject.omeka.net/
Students may book an archives research appointment with Christina here: https://calendly.com/christinakasman.
Any archives-related questions not covered by the above? Please reach out to Christina at archives@sarahlawrence.edu.
We love your interest in deepening your research skills in addition to the ‘fun’ things we provide! Though, as librarians, we feel that workshops through our Research Services and Digital Humanities are fun, too. Who wouldn’t? These span a broad range of topics/skills, and are available throughout every semester. Upcoming workshops are always listed in the Corq app as well as Grypon Link, which also posts to the SLC events emails. The full list of our more recent previous and current workshops are listed here for Research Services, and here for Digital Humanities.
For the last two semesters, our research librarians have been teaching a one-credit course called Interrogating the Information Ecosystem. The course explores how to find, evaluate, interrogate, and understand the context of information. It combines theory and practice, and the skills are applicable across all fields and information types. We hope to see you in the class next year
For the last three semesters, we have partnered with the Yonkers Public Library for a library card sign-up event. We look forward to continuing and growing this partnership.
The Sarah Lawrence College Podcast (formerly The Sarah Lawrence College LIBRARY Podcast) explores the lives, careers, ambitions, and passions of the Sarah Lawrence College community. Host Tim Kail interviews faculty, staff, students, and alum with a signature style that's as in-depth as it is welcoming. In the 2023 survey, we asked who you would like to hear from as a guest on the podcast. Among the answers were professors, students, staff, administrators, and alums. The following people have appeared on episodes.
We will, of course, continue to provide excellent content and take requests whenever possible!
