SlateText Privacy Policy
Your messages, your device, your privacy.
Last updated: August 22, 2026
SlateText is an Android text-messaging application that sends and receives SMS and MMS messages. This Privacy Policy explains what information SlateText accesses, why it is needed, where it stays, and the choices available to you. In this policy, “SlateText,” “the app,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to SlateText. “You” and “your” refer to the person using the app.
Your messages stay on your device
Your SMS and MMS conversations—including message text and attached photos, videos, animated images, audio, and other supported media—are stored in Android’s system messaging database and related storage on your device. SlateText reads and writes this information so it can display, send, receive, organize, search, and manage your conversations.
SlateText does not upload your messages or contacts to a SlateText server. We cannot remotely read your conversations. When you send a message, the message and any attachment are transmitted through your mobile carrier to the recipients you select. Your carrier and the recipient’s service providers process that transmission under their own terms and privacy practices.
Information SlateText accesses on your device
SlateText requests access only when needed to provide messaging features. Depending on the features you use and the permissions you grant, the app may access:
SMS and MMS messages: to send, receive, display, organize, search, delete, restore, and manage your conversations.
Contacts: to show contact names and photos, match telephone numbers, and let you select recipients.
Phone, SIM, and carrier information: to select the correct subscription, support dual-SIM messaging, apply carrier MMS settings, and route messages correctly.
Photos, videos, audio, and supported files: to attach, preview, prepare, resize, compress, and send content you select.
Camera: to capture a photo or video when you choose the camera attachment feature.
Microphone: to record a voice message or video audio when you choose a recording feature.
Notifications: to alert you to incoming messages and provide available actions such as reply or mark as read.
This information is used on your device to provide SlateText’s features. You can review or change permissions through Android Settings. Disabling a permission may prevent the related feature from working.
Default SMS app permissions
SlateText is designed to operate as Android’s default SMS application. Restricted SMS permissions are used only to provide the core SMS and MMS functionality expected from a default messaging app. SlateText requests these permissions after the required default-SMS setup and stops using restricted access when it is no longer permitted to operate as the default handler.
Photos, videos, GIFs, audio, and files
When you select or create an attachment, SlateText may create a temporary or optimized copy so the media fits carrier MMS limits. Processing occurs on your device. The original file is not intentionally modified. Temporary copies and previews are stored in app-controlled storage and removed according to the app’s cleanup process.
MMS attachment compatibility, compression, quality, maximum size, and delivery depend on the active carrier, network, recipient device, and supported media type. SlateText does not automatically upload oversized media to a cloud-sharing service.
Conversation organization and spam controls
SlateText may use on-device rules to organize conversations into views such as People, Groups, Alerts, Offers, and Spam. Classification can consider conversation participants, sender format, contact matching, message characteristics, and your previous choices. Automatic classification may be incorrect. User-selected categories and spam actions remain under your control.
Message content is not sent to an external artificial-intelligence or message-classification service for this purpose.
Drafts, Trash, and local app data
SlateText may store drafts, preferences, conversation-category choices, thumbnails, temporary attachments, and diagnostic information locally on your device. Deleted messages placed in SlateText’s Trash may remain available for restoration for up to 30 days unless you permanently delete them sooner.
Clearing SlateText’s app storage or uninstalling the app can remove app-private information, but it may not delete SMS or MMS records stored in Android’s shared system messaging database or copies stored in a backup location selected by you.
Backups and exported diagnostics
If you choose to create a backup or export diagnostic information, SlateText saves the information to the location you select through Android. A selected location may be local storage or a storage provider available through Android’s system file interface. SlateText does not operate its own cloud-backup server and does not receive the contents of your backup.
Backups and diagnostic exports remain under your control. You are responsible for protecting and deleting copies saved outside SlateText. Diagnostic exports may contain technical information about the device, carrier, app, or message transport; review an export before sharing it and remove private information when appropriate.
Information SlateText does not collect
SlateText does not:
Sell personal or sensitive user information.
Display third-party advertisements.
Use third-party advertising trackers.
Use analytics or crash-reporting services.
Transmit analytics or crash-report data to the developer.
Upload your messages or contacts to a SlateText server.
Use your message content to build an advertising profile.
Send message content to an external artificial-intelligence classifier.
When information is shared
Information is shared when you direct SlateText to send an SMS or MMS message or attachment to selected recipients. Message delivery is handled by your mobile carrier and necessary Android system services. SlateText may disclose limited information if required by applicable law or valid legal process, or when reasonably necessary to protect users, the public, SlateText, or others from fraud, abuse, security threats, or legal harm.
Security
Messages and local app information are protected by the security controls available on your Android device, including device encryption and screen-lock protection when enabled. Keep your device, Android version, and SlateText installation updated. No device, carrier network, or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
Your choices and deletion
You can manage information by deleting messages or conversations, clearing drafts, removing attachments, emptying Trash, deleting backups or exports from their selected storage locations, changing Android permissions, clearing SlateText app storage, or uninstalling the app. SlateText does not require a SlateText online account, so there is no remote SlateText account to delete.
Uninstalling SlateText does not necessarily delete messages retained in Android’s system messaging database. Use an authorized default messaging app or Android controls to manage those records.
Children’s privacy
SlateText is a general-audience messaging application and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through a SlateText server because SlateText does not operate an account, analytics, advertising, or message-storage service.
Third-party services
Mobile carriers, Android, Google Play, device manufacturers, recipients, and user-selected storage providers may process information independently when providing their services. Their handling of information is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. SlateText is not responsible for the privacy practices of services it does not control.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when SlateText’s features, data practices, legal requirements, or platform policies change. The updated version will be posted on the SlateText website with a revised “Last updated” date. Material changes will be communicated through the app or another appropriate method when required.
