Slackjaw Effects was founded and is currently run by one makeup artist, Julia Johnson. Based in Lafayette, LA, Julia started her SFX makeup pursuit while attending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, working on student projects such as short films and theatrical productions. She's currently working to attend the Cinema Makeup School in Los Angeles, CA, in order to receive proper training and certifications. She loves doing what she does, and we hope to see her become a professional makeup artist!

Slackjaw Effects was named from one of Julia's original makeup creations: Richard Bright, otherwise known as Slackjaw. He was once a fearsome pirate, but due to his poor decisions before his death, he was cursed to guard his crew's graveyard, his slacking jaw a reminder of his sins. His backstory can be explored further in the coming play, Slackjaw, written by Julia Johnson, to be produced in the coming years. The process of his creation struck such a high cord with Julia that she decided to name her brand after him.
