In November of 2000, I was elected to the Dallas City Council. In years prior I served on the Park and Recreation Board and the Budget Committee. I was reelected to a second term on the city council in 2004. After concluding my service on the council, I was elected and served on the Executive Board of the Dallas School District classified union as Vice-President for 13 years. I was also appointed to the Finance Committee of the school district at its inception. I contributed to these groups with critical thinking and collaboration.
I have enjoyed giving back to the community and participating whenever I have had the opportunity. It was a privilege to serve as a City Councilor, and I am thankful for the opportunity to serve as your Mayor.
I have lived in Dallas, Oregon since I was born in 1968. My parents built a home on Ellis Street, and I lived there until I was in the fourth grade. Later, I lived in a house next door to the fire department until I graduated from high school. The first home I purchased was on Ash Street down near the hospital.
I attended St Philip Kindergarten, Sarah Morrison Elementary, Oakdale Heights Elementary, Whitworth Elementary, Academy Junior High, LaCreole Junior High, and Dallas High School. I graduated with the Class of 1986.
While attending Linfield College, where I majored in religious studies, I worked summers at the outdoor swimming pool in Dallas. The pool was located on Levens Street at the Brandvold entrance of the park. I worked the counter, lifeguarded, and taught swim lessons.
After college, I worked with family at Dallas Garbage Disposal for many years in reception, and then as the office manager. During that time I was a member of the Dallas Rotary Club, and served as Rotary Secretary. Later, I would find a job as a specialist in the technology department at Dallas School District where I have worked since 2002.
In the Fall of 2000, I married Kathy Chapin, a Perrydale, Oregon native. We have raised our family here in Dallas.
As an invested member of this community, I promise to be a positive image for the City of Dallas.
