Introduction of basic water skills
In Level 1, swimmers will learn the fundamentals of swimming and will learn skills like blowing bubbles and floating with assistance. They will learn to feel comfortable in the water.
Typically taught on an elevated platform in the shallow end.
Swimmers must be at least 3 years old and potty trained.
Develop independence and confidence in basic water skills
In Level 2, swimmers will continue to build upon the skills learned in Level 1. They will develop confidence in the water as they learn to perform skills independently.
Typically taught in water depth of 3 to 4 feet.
Swimmers must be at least 3 years old and potty trained.
Introduction of freestyle and backstroke
In Level 3, swimmers will learn the two strokes of freestyle and backstroke. They will also learn how to tread water and perform dolphin kicks for future skills and strokes.
Typically taught in water depth of 4 to 5 feet.
Swimmers must be comfortable in water depths they cannot touch; swimmers must also be able to blow nose bubbles and float independently.
Introduction of breaststroke and recovery strokes
In Level 4, swimmers will learn 3 new strokes: breaststroke, elementary backstroke, and sidestroke. They will also learn how to perform a sitting dive and a kneeling dive.
Typically taught in water depth of 4 to 5+ feet.
Swimmers must know how to tread water and how to swim freestyle and backstroke.
Introduction of butterfly and continued stroke development
In Level 5, swimmers will learn the butterfly stroke and continue to development proper technique of previously learned strokes. They will also learn how to perform a standing dive and surface dives.
Typically taught in water depth of 5+ feet.
Swimmers must know how to tread water and how to swim freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke.
Develop stroke endurance and competitive swimming skills
In Level 6, swimmers will continue to master stroke technique while building endurance in the water. They will be introduced to competitive swimming skills such as block dives and turns.
Typically taught in water depth of 5+ feet.
Swimmers must know how to tread water and how to swim freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly with correct technique.
