A Brief History
A Brief History
Sky-Hi, Incorporated was originally formed in February, 1972 by a group of 9 flying enthusiasts who worked together at AT&T. Their goal was to create a social flying club that allowed them to pursue a flying license and additional ratings at economical rates, and to utilize the aircraft for pleasure and personal vacations.
The club's first airplane, a 1968 Cessna Skyhawk (N35540) was originally delivered from the Wichita, Kansas Cessna factory to a gentleman in East Williston, New York in June of 1968. Since then, an original aircraft bill of sale indicates that Sky-Hi, Inc. obtained the 172I Skyhawk on February 19, 1972 from an aircraft broker in Port Washington, NY. The amount of the purchase was $9,950, and the aircraft had been based at Frederick Municipal Airport (FDK) for over 36 years until a student pilot lost control during landing on November 27, 2008 resulting in extensive damage to the airplane. After the insurance company determined the airplane was a total loss, the club purchased a 1977 Cessna Cardinal (N19783) on January 25, 2009 from the Sarasota WestWind Flyers based at the Sarasota/Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) Florida.
