Art is my language of expression when words are unable to capture my vision. Through my art, I transform my identity and emotions into visuals that are meant to provoke complex thoughts. I intersect self-expression with social commentary to navigate and represent the experience of being a Black queer woman in a world that often silences voices like mine.
I take inspiration from the Black Arts Movement, which emphasised art as a tool for cultural pride, political resistance, and self-determination. Like the empowering artists of that era, I see art as more than personal expression. I use my art to understand myself and my thoughts, and as an outlet to mitigate the mental pressure of existing in a world such as ours.
Outside of my personal work, I aim to foster creative spaces where the next generation of artists can feel empowered by exploring their identities and expressing themselves through creating art. Whether in a classroom or in a gallery, my goal is to inspire others to see art as both a mirror and a window; a new way to see oneself, and a new way to see the world.
