If you want a secure, sweat-sealed in-ear bud that stays aware of your surroundings during a hard gym session, choose Skullcandy XTFree; if you need open-ear comfort with marathon battery life for long days of fishing, choose Monster Airclip AC210.
Both of these are built for movement, but they solve the problem in opposite ways. The XTFree plugs the canal and leans on ambient ear gels to keep you safe. The Airclip AC210 clips outside your ear and never enters the canal at all. I'll break down which one actually fits your routine — gym work, fishing trips, or both.
• Skullcandy XTFree — biggest strength: Sonically welded, sweat-resistant housing plus Pureclean-treated silicone ear gels that fight odor, backed by a genuinely secure in-ear fit. Biggest trade-off: Only 6 hours per charge and a 2-hour recharge time.
• Monster Airclip AC210 — biggest strength: 36 hours total with the case, IPX6 protection, and a featherlight 5.1g-per-bud open-ear design. Biggest trade-off: Open-ear sound means less isolation, so noisy environments will bleed in.
• Pick Skullcandy XTFree if you want canal-sealed audio, onboard controls, and odor-resistant gels for sweaty indoor training.
• Pick Monster Airclip AC210 if you want all-day battery, open-ear awareness, and a clip design that survives rain and long outdoor sessions.
The XTFree is the more traditional sport bud, and its whole design story is about sweat. The housing is sonically welded shut, which is a real structural choice — it blocks moisture from getting into the cracks and cords where cheap buds die. On top of that, Skullcandy blends Pureclean tech into the silicone ear gels specifically to keep them from getting funky after repeated sweat sessions. If you've ever thrown away a pair of buds because they smelled like a locker room, that detail matters more than it sounds.
Fit is the second pillar. The Triple Lock design and low-profile in-ear shape are meant to stay put without the neck-cable bulk of older sport models. Battery is 6 hours, charge time is 2 hours, and Bluetooth range is listed at 10 meters. There's an onboard mic and remote just below the left earbud — one press handles calls and play/pause, so you're not fishing your phone out mid-set.
The ambient ear gels are the interesting bit. They let sound in rather than sealing you off completely, which is the safety argument for training near traffic or in a shared gym. Note the spec sheet also lists Active Noise Cancellation as a noise control feature — treat that as a processing feature rather than full isolation, because ambient gels are explicitly designed to let outside sound through.
Buy it if you want a secure, sealed-feeling bud for gym work and you care about hygiene and moisture resistance. Skip it if you need all-day battery, or if you want a bud that survives a full day of fishing without a recharge.
The Airclip AC210 is a clip-on open-ear bud, and it's built around a completely different philosophy: never block the canal. Each earbud weighs just 5.1g and rests behind your ear on a flexible joint, so there's no pressure and no plugging. For anyone who hates the stuffed-up feeling of in-ear buds during long sessions, that's the entire appeal.
The audio hardware is a 14mm dynamic driver, which is large for this category and gives open-ear designs the headroom they need to sound like something. Monster pairs it with Directional Acoustic Tech that channels audio into your ear while limiting leakage — so you get a more private listen than a bare open speaker would give you. The spec sheet mentions ENC for call clarity, blocking wind and background noise on your end of the conversation.
Battery is where this one runs away with it: 8 hours per charge, 36 hours total with the pocket-sized case. Protection is IPX6, which covers sweat and rain. Connectivity is Bluetooth 6.0 with low-latency audio, and controls are tap-based. Color is white, and it ships with a one-year manufacturer warranty.
Buy it if you want open-ear awareness, huge battery headroom, and rain resistance for outdoor use. Skip it if you need serious isolation or a canal-sealed fit for loud environments.
• Best for battery life → Monster Airclip AC210. 8 hours per charge and 36 with the case versus 6 hours on the XTFree.
• Best for sweat and odor resistance → Skullcandy XTFree. Sonically welded housing plus Pureclean-treated gels is a combo the Airclip doesn't match.
• Best for open-ear awareness → Monster Airclip AC210. Clip-on design never enters the canal, so ambient sound stays fully present.
• Best for rain → Monster Airclip AC210. IPX6 is an explicit water-resistance rating; the XTFree's moisture claim is about sealed construction rather than a stated IP number.
• Best for gym work → Skullcandy XTFree. The in-ear Triple Lock fit and ambient gels are purpose-built for training.
• Best for fishing → Monster Airclip AC210. Long battery, rain resistance, and open-ear design suit a full day outdoors far better.
• Best for private listening → Monster Airclip AC210. Directional Acoustic Tech reduces leakage; open designs still leak less than you'd expect.
• Best for onboard controls → Skullcandy XTFree. A physical mic/remote below the left bud is easier to hit with sweaty hands than taps.
For the gym, I'd buy the Skullcandy XTFree. The welded housing, odor-resistant gels, and secure in-ear fit are exactly the traits that matter when you're sweating hard and moving fast. For fishing, I'd flip to the Monster Airclip AC210 — the 36-hour case, IPX6 rating, and open-ear awareness make it the smarter pick for long hours on the water. If you can only own one, decide which activity you do more, then check the current price on Amazon before you commit.
what is best headphones for gym
In my opinion, the Skullcandy XTFree is the better gym pick because of its sonically welded sweat-resistant build and Pureclean-treated ear gels. If you'd rather stay aware of your surroundings and want far longer battery, the open-ear Monster Airclip AC210 is the alternative.
what headphones for gym
Look for secure fit, moisture protection, and enough battery to cover a session. The XTFree covers all three with a 6-hour battery and a triple-lock in-ear fit, while the Airclip AC210 goes the other route with an open-ear clip and 36 hours total.

Threads on this usually split between sealed in-ear buds and open-ear designs. That's exactly the divide here: the XTFree is the sealed, sweat-focused option and the Airclip AC210 is the clip-on, awareness-first option — pick based on whether you want isolation or openness.

Both work, but for different reasons. The Airclip AC210 wins on battery and rain resistance, while the XTFree wins on sweat-sealed construction and odor control. Match the feature to your routine rather than chasing a single winner.
