Hyein Chang
I am a Professor of Clinical Psychology at Sungkyunkwan University and the Principal Investigator of the Research On Origins and Trajectories of Psychopathology (ROOT) Lab. My research centers on developmental psychopathology, with a particular focus on self-regulation, emotion regulation, and the interplay between individual vulnerabilities and environmental factors in the development of mental health difficulties. Drawing on extensive experience in longitudinal research across developmental periods, I aim to uncover nuanced mechanisms that underlie risk and resilience across the lifespan.
With a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Michigan and postdoctoral training at the University of Pittsburgh, I bring a strong foundation in both research and clinical work. My work spans diverse populations and includes projects on externalizing and internalizing psychopathology, technology use, trauma, and socio-contextual influences on mental health. A key strand of my work also focuses on prevention science—translating empirical insights into interventions that promote emotional health and mitigate risk for psychopathology.
