PIERCING AFTERCARE
Do not use alcohol or peroxide on your new piercing. These products will kill the new cells that are forming to heal your new piercing. Also do not use Vaseline or other creams and ointments, as these will prevent the oxygen getting to your piercing which will need air to be able to heal. Always thoroughly wash your hands before handling a new piercing until it has completely healed. You should avoid saliva, rough handling, soiled clothing, dirty hands or any contact with bodily fluids. You may wash in the bath as normal. You may swim with your new piercing, however chlorine is not recommended. Be sure to avoid sand or lotions in direct contact while your piercing is still healing.
FACIAL PIERCINGS
Piercings which are located in the navel, septum, ears, nipples or any surface or cartilage piercing, should be cleaned with antibacterial soap and warm water or dissolved salt from boiling kettle water 3-4 times a day. Please make sure to remove any build up of crust or discharge from the jewellery and piercing. Also be sure to turn and rotate the jewellery daily while your piercing is healing.
ORAL PIERCINGS
Every time you eat, drink, smoke, kiss or put anything in your mouth other than water, you must rinse your mouth immediately after with mouthwash such as Listerine or other brands of mouthwash ensuring that it is antiseptic. Also rinsing your mouth out with warm salt water will help your piercing heal more quickly. Jewellery in oral piercings will rotate as you talk so no further rotation is required, however jewellery in oral piercings are more prone to come loose so you need to check that your jewellery is tight enough on a daily basis.
All piercings and people are different so these are rough guidelines but if looked after properly any piercing should heal much faster.
