Podcast & Composers Consortium Project
Skills and Bones podcast, created by Matthew Driscoll, is always on the search for trombone treasures. This is a podcast about anything music, life stories, trombone, and fellowship. The hope is to develop a Skills and Bones community and maybe inspire someone along the way to do something great in their lives whether music related or not.
A long time passion of Driscoll's is collaborating with musicians and making music come alive. He has done this through his chamber group Durward Ensemble and is now spilling over to the podcast. This is the first consortium project under the Skills and Bones name and hopefully will not be the last. Dr. Bruce Faske, from the University of Alabama has joined Driscoll to co-host this season for many episodes and has become 2nd lead to this consortium.
If you are not able to contribute at this time, there are t-shirts for sale with the Skills and Bones logo (cross trombones) where 1/2 of the proceeds goes towards commissions and related fees.
This piece will be for trombone solo and wind band. The solo part will be for an advanced musician but not too challenging that a senior or graduate student could not perform it. The accompaniment for the wind band is for high school and advanced enough for college bands to play. This piece will provide a great opportunity for a student to learn for their school’s concerto competition and for the studio professor to go out and work with schools and recruit and showcase the trombone as a solo voice with that school's wind ensemble. Dr. Faske will premiere this piece with the University of Alabama Wind Ensemble and Dr. Driscoll with a select high school group.
Trombone students and professionals alike are familiar with Lee's music through solos and many trombone choir works. This new piece will be for solo trombone and piano accompaniment, about 6-7 minutes in length, for an advanced undergraduate or graduate level that students and professionals will want to program on recitals.
Lisa Neher was recently named "composer of the year" by Oregon Music Teachers Association and Iowa Music Teachers Association. Dr. Neher is writing a trombone duo with trombone choir accompaniment. The trombone choir being alive and well in most schools and a very popular ensemble at summer trombone workshops and beyond, this can be a great vehicle to add to those programs and feature guest artists or graduate students.
