A Graduate Teaching Experience over the course of six semesters (Fall 2019-Summer 2021) with Dr. Jane Wegner and Dr. Matt Gillispie.
This course, as well as it's undergraduate equivalent SPLH 672, provide graduate and undergraduate students with clinical experiences in the Schiefelbusch Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic.
In my role as a GTA for this course, I served as a supervisor on the Communication Advocacy Team (CAT) along with Dr. Jane Wegner. This team had a focus on serving adults with complex communication needs who used AAC. This team also regularly preformed AAC evaluations. In this role, I regularly performed the following:
supervised students in both individual and group intervention experiences
supervised student in completing AAC assessments for clients
reviewed student documentation (including lesson plans, daily notes, and progress reports) and provided feedback
completed billing procedures for services provided
led weekly clinic team meetings and discussions
provided supervision for and feedback on virtual clinical experiences through Simucase
My initial experience as GTA for this course was all in-person instruction. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the service delivery model of instruction for this course shifted. We provided simulated clinical opportunities, telepractice clinical opportunities, and eventually returned to some in-person clinical opportunities.
