Inclusive Classics: Retelling Greco-Roman Myths for the 21st Century hosted by Classic Club at Lunch (12:20 - 1 p.m.)
There is a major movement underway in the field of Classics to become more inclusive and to incorporate new areas of study, including the reinterpretation of myths to make them more welcoming and meaningful to people of diverse race, gender, sexual orientation and socioeconomic status. This workshop will introduce Lab students to a broader vision of Classics education and help them realize that Classics, including the study of Latin and Greek, is a field that is grappling with questions about racism and exclusion in the pursuit of social justice and that Classicists are creating opportunities for everyone to be engaged. This workshop may help participants see their own life stories in retellings of Classical myth, and help students realize that the study of Classics is much broader than white, western culture studies.
