Operator development: Training new and existing operators to become proficient and licensed, with a focus on technical skills, operating procedures, and upgrading to higher license levels.
Emergency preparedness: Developing a pool of trained and organized volunteers who can provide crucial communications support to public service agencies and communities during emergencies and disasters.
Community engagement and public service: Providing hands-on education and community service, often through local clubs and organizations, to demonstrate the benefits of amateur radio.
STEM education: Inspiring youth through hands-on STEM learning experiences, using amateur radio as a tool to promote interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Promoting the hobby: Raising public awareness of the hobby's usefulness and enjoyment and fostering innovation in radio science and technology.
Disaster Assistance: Amateur radio provides trained and skilled volunteer operators to support public safety and service partners by providing reliable communications during emergencies and disasters. This service is crucial because ham radio operations are independent of commercial infrastructure like cell towers, internet, and power lines, making them a vital backup during a crisis. This allows operators to maintain critical communications when other systems are off line.
Public service: Amateur radio operators provide critical support through services like real-time weather reporting, search and rescue assistance, and coordinating efforts during disasters.
Supporting official agencies: By training and registering with organizations like ARES & RACES, licensed radio operators are ready to assist government agencies, emergency management, and public safety organizations when needed.
