Past student Danielle Boodoo-Fortune @dboodoofortune is a poet, visual artist, illustrator and educator from Trinidad & Tobago. 

Her writing and art have appeared in several local and international journals such as Bim: Arts for the 21st Century, the Caribbean Writer, Small Axe Literary Salon, Poetry London, the Rialto, POETRY and others. Her work has also been included in the anthologies Coming Up Hot: Eight Poets from the Caribbean, (Peekash Press, 2015) and Thicker than Water (Peekash Press, 2018).

Her first collection of poems, Doe Songs, was published by UK based Peepal Tree Press in 2018. It was awarded the 2019 OCM Bocas Prize in Poetry.

Danielle  was also winner of the Small Axe Poetry Prize in 2012, the Hollick-Arvon Caribbean Writers’ Poetry Prize in 2015 and winner of the Wasafiri New Writing Prize in 2016. She was shortlisted for the Montreal Poetry Prize in 2013 and 2017.

In 2012, Danielle was selected for the Urban Heartbeat Project, a street art project which took place across the Caribbean and Central America. 

Her first solo art exhibition, Criatura, was held at the Art Society of Trinidad and Tobago in June 2013. In that year, her work was featured in group exhibitions Music is the Soul in Toronto, as well as The Femail Project in Birmingham, UK. In 2014, she was chosen to be a part of the Museum of Latin American Art’s Frida Kahlo-themed Women’s Day exhibition. Her work has also been exhibited at several group and solo shows locally and abroad, as well as in numerous arts publications. She has illustrated several books.

Danielle lives in Sangre Grande with her husband Kevin and sons Rafael and Dante.
