Camp Wanake in Beach City, Ohio
We have to limit our number of campers to 220 students due to camp size. Registration for 2022 Sixth Grade Camp is now closed. The final day for reservation and deposit payment was April 15, 2022.
What is Sixth Grade Camp? Strongsville's Sixth Grade Camp is an annual retreat for Strongsville Middle School students. Camp is held every fall at various camps near Northeast Ohio. This year's camp will be held at Camp Wanake. Camp Wanake is an outdoor youth camp and year-round retreat center located in the beautiful rolling hills of Beach City, Ohio, near Canton. Our planning committee works with Camp Wanake to rent out the property exclusively for our students. The Camp's employees provide our students meals and facilitate the weekend's activities, and our parent chaperones are present to guide our kids through a weekend of fun. Campers are transported by chartered bus and are housed in cabins or guest houses. Students will rotate through a variety of fun activities like swimming, nature hikes, campfires, climbing walls, team games and other outdoor activities. There will be fun for everyone, rain or shine.
Special Diets / Allergies
If your child has any allergies or special dietary needs, Wanake Campsite can definitely provide a special menu for your child. Once you are registered, you will be receiving a handful of forms to complete. In these forms there will be a section for allergies / special dietary needs. Please complete in full detail. We will be passing this information onto the campsite for the food service manager at Wanake to review. If there are any food allergies, the food service manager will be in contact with you to go over the details of the food menu for the weekend and make any necessary accommodations for your child. We have been informed they can accommodate a gluten-free diet as well.
Medications
If your child needs to take any medications over the weekend, you will be coordinating that with your child's chaperone. Once your child's group/chaperone is determined, you will be receiving a call from your chaperone the week prior to camp. At that time, you can go over any medications that your child needs to take as well as anything else you would like to go over with your child's chaperone. We prefer chaperones to hold all prescription medications. The morning of check-in, you will meet up with your child's chaperone and can give all medications to him/her to care for during the camp weekend.
Roommates
Once registration is closed, we will be sending out more forms to complete. One of which is the roommate request form. We ask that you list several friends that your child would like to room with, and we will do our best to make sure at least 1 (or more) of the friends listed will be with your child in their bunking room or with their chaperone rotation group. The intent of camp is to have fun with friends, explore new adventures, and also make new friends as these children enter into middle school, so we like to ask all parents to encourage their child to be open to meeting new friends during this camp weekend experience.
Transportation to and home from camp
Nowak Tours is coordinating school buses to transport our group to and home from Wanake campsite. We will be meeting at The Strongsville United Methodist Church parking lot on Friday, August 26th at 8:30am for check-in and at that time you will also meet up with your child's chaperone and camp group. The buses are scheduled to depart Strongsville at 10am to travel to Wanake. It is about a 90 minute drive to the campsite. On Sunday, August 28th, Nowak Tours buses will be arriving at Wanake Campsite at 11am to drive us back to Strongsville. We should be arriving back to the Strongsville United Methodist Church at approximately 12:30pm.

Can my child bring their cell phone?
It is entirely up to parents' discretion regarding having cellphones and/or any valuables brought to camp with your child. Children attending camp are welcome to bring their cellphone to camp, however it is fully their responsibility. Chaperones or staff will not have any responsibility over any valuables that your child brings.
Send us an e-mail at SixthGradeCamp@gmail.com This fun-filled weekend is organized and facilitated by parent volunteers, not SMS. If you're interested in helping (small jobs to big jobs!) please let us know.
