Building Regulations

Are important to follow as they are set out by the Government. The Building Regulations are intended to protect people's safety, health and welfare in and around buildings. The regulations are also designed to improve conservation of fuel and power, protect and enhance the environment and promote sustainable development. Local councils administer the regulations.

British Standards

The British Standards Institution (BSI) is a service organization that produces standards across a wide variety of industry sectors. Its codes of practice and specifications cover management and technical subjects ranging from business continuity management to quality requirements. BSI was founded in 1901 in the UK as the Engineering Standards Committee and now operates in more than 140 countries globally. BSI British Standards, part of the BSI Group, acts as the UK's National Standards Body (NSB) and works closely with the UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). BSI British Standards has around 31,000 current standards.

We use a number of the British Standrds in the plumbing Industry, one of which can be seen opposite.

Invoice

An invoice, bill or tab is a commercial document issued by a seller to a buyer, relating to a sale transaction and indicating the products, quantities, and agreed prices for products or services the seller had provided the buyer.

Variation Order

A variation (sometimes referred to as a variation instruction, variation order (VO) or change order), is an alteration to the scope of works in a construction contract in the form of an addition, substitution or omission from the original scope of works.

Delivery Note

A delivery note is a document that is included with a shipment of goods sent out to a customer. It lists the description and amount of goods enclosed in the shipment. The delivery note does not usually list the price of the goods being delivered, that information will be on the invoice which follows shortly after.

Estimate

Construction cost estimating is the process of forecasting the cost of building a physical structure. Of course, builders and clients both worry about the financial impact of cost overruns and failing to complete a project.

Quote

A quote is a figure that a contractor gets from a supplier for the price of material they need for a job. Quotes are often only good for a certain amount of time-generally about a month; the builder has only that amount of time to buy the materials at specified price

Programme of Works

Programmes describe the sequence in which tasks must be carried out so that a project (or part of a project) can be completed on time. Programmes will often identify: Dates and durations allocated to tasks. A critical path (the sequence of critical tasks upon which the overall duration of the programme is dependent).
