Welcome to the website of the "Strong motion site characterization" Workshop which will take place 11-12 March 2019 in L'Aquila, Italy.

The workshop is organized within the framework of the Network Activity NA5 "Networking databases of site and station characterization" of the SERA-EU project (see SERA-NA5 description for further details; http://www.sera-eu.org). It is devoted to the proposition of guidelines and recommendations for common best practice procedures of site-effects characterization at the seismic strong motion stations, in terms of indicators and quality metrics. Moreover, it will discuss the road map for strong motion site characterization in Europe in the next 10 years. All topics are related to the SERA and EPOS activities on connecting infrastructures and communities in the field of site characterization (https://www.epos-ip.org).

Scientists and practitioners in geophysics, engineering seismology and geotechnical engineering, building code experts as well as network operators are welcome to discuss on the state of the art of site characterization at seismic stations worldwide and on the guideline propositions.

Additionally, we propose:

  • a training course on Ambient Vibration Techniques for Site Characterization proposed the week before, 4-9 March 2019;
  • an open workshop on recent advanced techniques for site characterization, 9-10 March 2019.

These events will be held in the same location as the SERA workshop (further details available at http://www.geopsy.org/array_course_program.html).

Please see the Location section for details on the meeting room, accomodation and how to reach L'Aquila.
