Unforgettable Women of the Gospels by Melanie Rigney
The woman at the well. The woman healed by a touch. The widow at Nain. We know them only by where they were or what they did. But Jesus knew them. He knew all about them―just as he knows about us. This eight-lesson Bible study, suitable for individual or group use, delves into each woman’s possible emotions before the encounter, and what lessons we can learn from them. Journaling prompts and discussion questions are included for each lesson. The big questions: What happened to them after their encounter with grace? What happens to us after our encounters with grace? Though written with adult Catholic women in mind, this study is suitable for all in adult faith formation who are seeking to both learn more about the women whose names are forgotten by history, and learn more about themselves.

The Widow's Offering: Mark 12:41-44
Suggest to read Mark 12:38-40 in addition to 41-44.
Discussion Questions:
What do the 3 previous versus say to you when thinking about this parable?
Do you think this reading's lesson is about tithing?
Why didn't Jesus ask the woman to stop and talk with him? What might have happened if he had?
Pray together:
Gracious and compassionate God,
We lift up to you the poor and the marginalized, the hungry and the forgotten.
We ask that you give us your heart, so that we may feel the cries of the exploited and see you in the face of the poor.
Forgive us for the times we have been preoccupied with our own comforts and forgotten the needs of our neighbors. Strengthen us against apathy and indifference. Remind us that in serving "the least of these," we are serving you.
Open our eyes to recognize those in poverty within our own communities and around the world.
Grant us the boldness, wisdom, and generosity to share our gifts with others, not counting the cost.
May our acts of kindness restore dignity and rekindle hope for those who feel forgotten.
Inspire us to work toward changing the structures and systems that create and sustain poverty.
Lord, you listened to the needs of the poor and strengthened their hearts.
Strengthen our hearts as well, so we may always remember that helping the poor is a sacred priority.
Help us to become instruments of your love and turn sorrow into joy.
Amen.
The Widow at Nain: Luke 7:11-15
Discussion Questions:
When has Jesus told you not to cry? How did you respond to your situation?
Have you had a conversion of heart? What triggered that change?
Pray together:
Heavenly Father, I come before You with an open heart, asking for the faith to navigate the path You have set for me.
Guide my steps, protect me from fear, and fill me with trust in Your plan, even when the way ahead is unclear.
Grant me the grace to surrender my will and find strength in Your presence.
Help my life and my journey to be a testimony to Your love and goodness, so that others may come to know You.
Amen
The Gifts of Imperfection: 10th Anniversary Edition by Brene Brown
For over a decade, Brené Brown has found a special place in our hearts as a gifted mapmaker and a fellow traveler. She is both a social scientist and a kitchen-table friend whom you can always count on to tell the truth, make you laugh, and, on occasion, cry with you. And what’s now become a movement all started with The Gifts of Imperfection, which has sold more than two million copies in thirty-five different languages across the globe.
What transforms this book from words on a page to effective daily practices are the ten guideposts to wholehearted living. The guideposts not only help us understand the practices that will allow us to change our lives and families, they also walk us through the unattainable and sabotaging expectations that get in the way.
Brené writes, “This book is an invitation to join a wholehearted revolution. A small, quiet, grassroots movement that starts with each of us saying, ‘My story matters because I matter.’ Revolution might sound a little dramatic, but in this world, choosing authenticity and worthiness is an absolute act of resistance.”
