Formed in 1973, the Summer Independent Swim League (SISL) consist of five swim teams located in the northwest corner of Wayne County, Michigan. For six weeks each June and July, hundreds of 5-18 age group swimmers compete and have fun learning the sport of swimming. The league has a rich swimming tradition; as several noted world class athletes got their start at a young age while competing for a SISL club. They include gold medal Olympians Allison Schmitt (Colony Swim Club) and Sheila Taormina (Burton Hollow Swim Club).
SISL Swim Club Members:
Burton Hollow Swim Club (Dolphins)
Fairway Farms Swim Club (Barracudas)
Newburgh Swim Club (Sharks)
Northville Swim Club (Penguins)
Colony Swim Club (Crocodiles)
Each summer, all five teams swim a round-robin of eight dual meets held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in June and July. The season is then capped off with league wide championship meet on the last Saturday of July. The team at the top of the standings receives it's name on the traveling league trophy.
