The temple was established in 1996 by the Most Venerable Gatamanne Hemaloka Nayaka Thero, a renowned Buddhist monk in Sri Lanka.
The Most Venerable Gatamanne Hemaloka Nayaka Thero was a highly respected Buddhist monk in Sri Lanka who passed away in 2020 at the age of 78. He was born in 1943 in the village of Urugamuwa in southern Sri Lanka and ordained as a Buddhist monk at the age of 12. He received his higher ordination in 1955 and went on to become a renowned scholar and meditation master.
The Most Venerable Gatamanne Hemaloka Nayaka Thero was known for his deep knowledge of Buddhist scriptures and his ability to teach complex teachings in simple language. He was also a strong advocate for the practice of meditation and spent many years teaching meditation to people from all walks of life.
Throughout his life, the Most Venerable Gatamanne Hemaloka Nayaka Thero played a prominent role in promoting Buddhism and meditation in Sri Lanka and around the world. He was the founder of the Siri Thisarana Dharmayathanaya and also established several Buddhist temples and meditation centers in Sri Lanka. His legacy continues to inspire and guide Buddhist practitioners all over the world.
Abilipitiye Rathanajothi Thero, also known as Ven. Rathanajothi, was a Buddhist monk from Sri Lanka. He was born on October 31, 1984, in the town of Abilipitiya in the Ratnapura district of Sri Lanka.
At present, he serves as the Chief Incumbent at Siri Thisarana Dharmayathanaya, and holds the title of "Siyam Maha Nikaye Malwathu Mahavihara Parshwaye Karmawagacharya," as well as the position of All Island Justice of Peace.
Ven. Rathanajothi became a novice monk (Samanera) at the age of 10 and was ordained as a bhikkhu (Upasampada) in 2005. He obtained a higher education at Gangodavilla Subadrarama Vidyayathanaya Maha Pirivena, earning diplomas in Buddhist Philosophy from the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka, as well as in Mass Media Communication from the National Youth Services Council, Maharagama.
Ven. Rathanajothi was known for his work in promoting Buddhism and Buddhist education in Sri Lanka. He founded Siri Saranapala Dharama Vidyalaya in Piliyandala, which offers Sunday school and Computer Training Courses.
In addition to his religious and educational contributions, he was a prolific writer and authored several books on Buddhist philosophy and meditation. Some of his notable works include "Sithuivili Seya," "Mahapinkama Saha Nirayasa Suwasya," and "Mihidan U Memuthatha ta Pana Pewu Ramaniya Pahiyangala." He also served as the Chief Editor of "Thisarana Sarana Daham" newspaper.
