About me

Hello! My name is Justin Kelso. I am a sophomore finance intern from Avon, IN. I chose to major in finance because it seemed to be the most fascinating career path for my likings coming out of high school. Ever since I started my educational career at IUPUI I have become more immersed in the never-ending world of finance. I have been recognized as a natural leader and great communicator for almost as long as I can remember. So, when it comes to completing group projects and networking I am a great asset to any team! To summarize my most impactful work experiences so far; I would say that starting my own landscaping company and my internship right now have been the most crucial to my professional development.

Internship Experience

As I previously stated, I am a finance intern for Lids Inc. Lids Inc. is a retail sporting company that specialized in hats from almost all collegiate and professional sports leagues. When I started my internship I began working with the tax management team which mostly involved reconciling monthly sales tax payments Currently I am on the financial planning and analysis team and so far we are preparing a plan for the 2022 fiscal year. At Lids we communicate half of the time through Microsoft teams in order to keep productivity high, and other times you can just walk up to someones desk and ask them an easy question. I have learned the real life application of what I have learned in my classes so far. For example, we had to go through the income statements or the previous fiscal year to verify the payments made for sales tax collected.

Professional Goals

So far, I have come to realize that I don't mind this career path but I feel like I desire to go into investment banking much more. I plan on moving directly into my career and possibly going back for my MBA if necessary. I have no alternate plans.
