Sing for Joy
"For you, O LORD, have made me glad by your work;
at the works of your hands I sing for joy." - Psalm 92:4
Thus far, our plan for the year ahead has been to rehearse in two locations; however, THAT HAS CHANGED. All students will rehearse together in ELVERSON, and we will not be making use of the Boyertown location. While this works best for a number of reasons, we do understand the drive time may be prohibitive for some families who live further north and who may have been considering Sing for Joy, and hope that we can still figure out a way to make it work!
Founded in 2021, Sing for Joy is a choral organization servicing homeschooled families in Berks, Chester, and Montgomery Counties. Our desire is to glorify God through excellence in choral music, and our prayer is that all who participate will more clearly see the beauty of our Savior. If you are a homeschooling parent in southeastern Pennsylvania, we would love to have your children join us!

For the upcoming school year (2025-2026), Sing for Joy will consist of one choir composed of singers aged 8 and up; Lord willing, we will eventually divide into two age groups as listed below.
Cantate, for students aged 8-12, provides students with the opportunity to sing one- and two-part songs in various styles.
Jubilate, for students ages 13 and up, gives students a chance to sing more challenging music in multiple parts.
Over the course of four years, we have performed music in Spanish, French, Swahili, German and Latin (as well as English, of course!), and our repertoire has included music from the Renaissance to modern times. Both choirs sing primarily sacred music; we present two concerts in December and two in April.
We rehearse on Wednesday mornings throughout the school year at Brick Lane Community Church (52 S Brick Lane, Elverson, PA 19520) from 12:00-1:15 PM.
Important Dates (scroll down for a more detailed calendar):

With the abundance of activities available for homeschoolers these days, you might be wondering: is Sing for Joy a worthwhile investment of my family’s time and money? Perhaps some of the following questions have occurred to you. If so, the minute or two it takes to continue reading will be time well spent!
WOULDN’T PIANO LESSONS BE A BETTER WAY TO LEARN MUSIC?
Piano lessons are great! I would never try to dissuade someone from learning piano. That said, not everyone has a piano or keyboard, nor the finances necessary for regular lessons. Sing for Joy – for somebody choosing the least economical option (one semester with no discounts) – averages out to $10 for one hour of instruction. If you’ve priced piano lessons, you know this is significantly less than you would spend for an hour with just about anybody.
WE ALREADY SING IN CHURCH; ISN’T THAT ENOUGH?
Yes and no. Many parents whose children have sung in a choir – including Sing for Joy! – report that their children’s participation in congregational singing increased significantly after a few months or so of being in a choir. Believers are repeatedly exhorted (in both the OT and NT) to come before Him with singing, and we should do all we can to encourage this in our children!
IT’S CUTE WHEN KIDS SING, BUT IS IT IMPORTANT ENOUGH FOR US TO CARVE OUT THE TIME AND MONEY FOR CHOIR?
In Sing for Joy, we strive for more than just a cute photo op for social media. Again and again, we hear about how our concerts have exceeded our audiences’ expectations of what a group of kids singing together would sound like. Singing in a choir shows kids that they’re capable of producing something beautiful and truly enjoyable to listen to – something they’re excited to share with their families and friends. Like good literature, choral music provides a glimpse into a wider world: the world of music ranging from Renaissance to Classical to Gospel; from Spanish songs to songs in Swahili or German; from Robert Frost to texts taken directly from Scripture…and much more.
BUT I HAVE BOYS, AND BOYS DON’T SING, SO…?
Culturally, that has become the norm in many circles. Historically – and biblically – not so much. The world, and the church, need men who sing…and that starts with boys who sing. Choir is a wonderful starting point for making that happen!
WOULD MY KID BE BORED?
We all enjoy different things, so I can’t guarantee that every single person will find Sing for Joy “fun.” However, it often turns out to be a lot more enjoyable than reluctant participants expect. It’s fun to learn a skill we didn’t realize we had; it’s fun to work with one’s peers on a shared goal; it’s fun to make friends! The camaraderie fostered by shared music-making really is a wonderful thing.
WHAT IF MY FAMILY CAN’T AFFORD IT?
If you’re having a tight year, please reach out to singforjoypa@gmail.com, and we’ll see what we can do to make it work for you. Don’t hesitate to ask; we want to make sure everybody who is interested has the opportunity to sing with us!
