The Science Comedy Program trains academics and scientists in public speaking, storytelling techniques, and audience engagement. Participants develop skills in communicating complex ideas with clarity and humour through a series of workshops and one-on-one coaching sessions with professional public speaking trainers and comedians. The program culminates in the delivery of a 10-minute science talk, blending scientific content with humour, presented at a major public comedy festival.
I presented my PhD Research at the Perth Comedy Festival in April 2025.
From August 18–31, 2024, I participated in a Marine Heatwaves Training Workshop, which was held at the University of Washington Friday Harbor Laboratories to support early career researchers pursuing interdisciplinary research. Supported by Chuck Greene, we, the 15 in-person workshop participants, have published a short article describing the importance of this instructional, project-focused workshop for developing interdisciplinary questions in marine science. We also produced an annotated bibliography for MHW publications.
In June 2022, I participated in the Spring School "A Mathematical Modelling Perspective on Ecology, Biodiversity, and the Blue Economy," held at the African Institute of Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in M'Bour, Senegal, and organized by the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT). I learned to apply mathematical and computational tools to analyze ecological systems, explore biodiversity dynamics, and evaluate sustainable strategies in marine and coastal environments. The program also fostered rich intercultural exchange, bringing together participants from diverse backgrounds to collaboratively explore scientific and environmental challenges.
