Another year has passed filled with joy and laughter. It has been a tough yet rewarding year for our UOBSC excos and subcomms (if you know you know). We've made many changes in 2019 from having brands to sponsor buffet lunch and dinner at FOC, conducting photoshoot for UOB shirt merchandise which has been on our wish-list for a long time, running an open event for all SIM students for the first time, working with a charity organisation to give back to the society, and many more. Seeing students with little smiles on their faces at each event made us realise the purpose of what this council is for, giving back to the student body.
It has been a pleasure working with these amazing people and we're excited for what's to come in 2020! Unfortunately, it has come to this time, where the 19/20 batch of exco needs to step down and give a platform for the new excos to shine. We have enjoyed the position and helping to set new standards for this council! Lastly, we would like to thank you all for the opportunity to serve in the exco positions and hope our paths cross again in the near future!
Thank you Keryn, Kenji, Alesha, Sherilyn, Theresa, Bernice, Jun Jing, Camellia, Yu Hui for all your hard work in 2019. Goodbyes are not forever, are not the end; it simply means I’ll miss you until we meet again.
For this year’s Christmas celebration, SIM-UOB student council has organized “Holidaze 2019”. This event was opened not just for the students of our UOB but for the students of other schools as well. There were activities such as photo booth, Christmas carol and food sales and we tried to carry out the event without any boundaries.
On December 12, a photo taking team dressed up as Santa and Rudolph marked the start of the event by walking around the school. Santa and Rudolph traveled around the school to promote the Holidaze event to students from other schools who did not receive the notice about the event in advance, and as a result, students from other schools continued to participate. (Particularly, ice mochi giveway was popular which could be redeemed by following our UoB Instagram account and sharing our post as a story. In addition, the Christmas Carol was enjoyed by the students of other schools as well as our own UoB students.
The service of taking photos at the photo booth with Polaroid cameras drew a lot of participation, and the photo booth was crowded throughout the event, being one of the most popular station. A Lucky Draw was held for those who took Polaroid photos and attractive prizes such as $50 Grab vouchers drew a lot of student participation
In addition to this, the Poke a Tree, which was loved for its unique ideas, and the Christmas Cookie Sales Event, also marked the end of the event, was a big success as they were all sold out!
All the proceeds generated from the event were donated to the Willing Heart, which delivers meals with warm hearts to the underprivileged neighbors, such as the elderly living alone, low-income families and single-parent families throughout Singapore.
Finally, I would like to thank UoB students and all SIM students for taking part in this meaningful event, and also to UoB SC for helping out in hosting this event to be a successful one. Merry Christmas everyone!!
The event serves to encourage bonding and cohesion between UOB Students as well as increase interaction with other institutions within SIM, and aims to kickstart the new semester with encouragement for the students.
In addition to giving out 500 Welfare Packs for all our 500 students which consists of snacks, cookies, Redbull, and vouchers to fuel students’ energy and keep them going, we also organised The Grand Carnival which students can engage in games and food booths, as well as take part in the lucky draw with every coupon purchased. In each UOB’s Student’s Welfare Pack, they are given a complimentary $5 coupon where they are able to utilise to play games at our 7 game booths and win mini game prizes.
The carnival, which is open to all students in SIM, sees 7 carnival games which includes Toss The Ring, Smack the Metal Tins and more. The Food that will be on sale at the F&B Booths include popular Bubble Tea brand Gongcha, Butter Beer and Churros, Posh Brownies and Macaroons. There will bundle promotions going on as well. In addition, there is also a Jaguar Booth, where we have engaged a Jaguar Designer down for students who wish to get an exquisite temporary tattoo of any size.
The Grand Carnival serves as a big scale carnival where all students of SIM can come together to enjoy a day of fun with games and Food and Beverages they will not usually find in school. The coupon enables them to a lucky draw chance students stand a chance to win attractive prizes.
