The Sims 4: Get to Work is the first expansion pack released for the franchise, released on March 30, 2015. This expansion pack provides players with the opportunity to actively engage in their Sims' lives and truly become part of their careers. As the pack theme focuses on work life, with Get to Work, players have the chance to take on an active role in how their Sims perform certain careers, among many other additions to the game-play.

In general, this expansion pack of The Sims 4 franchise is most comparable to The Sims 3 Ambitions and the much-loved The Sims 2 Open for Business when it comes to the core aspects of gameplay. As an expansion pack, it offers a variety of new game-play elements, a new world, new skills, careers, new Create-a-Sim and Build/Buy items, and much more. For players who are interested in aspects such as retail, it is an excellent choice and a great way to expand their gameplay experience.

Active Careers, formerly known as Professions, provides an immersive gameplay for careers in The Sims 4 as it reintroduces this game-play aspect from The Sims 3 Ambitions With these active careers, players have the option to follow their Sims to the workplace, instead of the traditional rabbit hole or off-world careers. During work hours, Sims can complete tasks and gain promotions faster, if players choose to follow them to their job.

Currently, The Sims 4 offers five active careers for players to explore: Detective, Doctor, Scientist, Actor/Actress, and Interior Decorator. The first three careers were initially introduced with the Get to Work expansion pack, and were the only active career options until the release of Get Famous and Happy Home Designer packs. Each career offers unique tasks and rewards, providing players with an engaging gaming experience.

The work lot for this career is FutureSim Labs. Only Scientist Sims are allowed to use objects like the Invention Constructor, Chemistry Lab, and Chemical Analyzer in this lot. While this career pays of well during work hours, the inventions created by these Sims can also allow for additional interactions and money-making methods, for example by copying or transforming the objects. Amongst many other objects, the Satellite Dish is incredibly useful for those who don't want their Sims to be abducted and impregnated by aliens.

In comparison to other careers in The Sims 4, the Doctor career requires the most work and is arguably one of the most challenging. Unfortunately, the rewards don't quite match the effort, with only a few minor benefits such as improved general health of Sims due to the introduction of the illness system and, if advanced enough, the ability to tell the gender of the baby to a pregnant Sim. Players must be observant and diagnose diseases correctly based on patients' visual symptoms and the tests they perform.

The Detective career is more balanced in comparison to the other active careers in this expansion. It requires less demanding hours than the Doctor career, but more involvement than the Scientist career. It offers the opportunity to visit various locations as crime scenes, giving Sims a chance to explore and meet new Sims. Furthermore, the detective career does not restrict Sims to a single work-lot for the entirety of their work hours, providing a refreshing change of scenery.

This career starts off with some mundane work that can be quite tedious and boring, but as Sims gain more experience and autonomy with their cases, it gradually becomes more fun and rewarding. As a detective, Sims will eventually be able to take on their own cases and interrogate suspects in order to get confessions. Sims can play bad cop and good cop while interrogating to have some fun dialogues. For Sims who have genius or observant traits and enjoy social interactions, this career can be a good fit as they will have an easier time completing the tasks.

It is quite common for The Sims 4 expansion packs and game packs to include a new world for players to explore. Get to Work introduces players to Magnolia Promenade, a new world that is the size of a neighborhood compared to other worlds, with only four lots available. Unlike other worlds, Magnolia Promenade is not intended as a residential neighborhood, but rather a small business center, with three pre-built stores and one empty lot, which players can build and manage.

The Sims Franchise is no stranger to Aliens. The Sims 4 introduces Aliens with a wide variety of features, including abductions and male-sim pregnancy. Not only has the game diversified Aliens' appearances, with different skin tones and outfit options, but it also allows Aliens to walk among us in disguise. With the Get to Work expansion, Sims may encounter townies that are secretly Aliens.

The Get to Work expansion pack provides a more realistic experience for players who prefer more detail in their life simulations. It allows pregnant Sims to give birth in a hospital, by selecting the Sim in labor and choosing the Have Baby at Hospital self-interaction option. Players can even travel to the hospital lot with any other Sim they choose, allowing for even more immersion. For an even more realistic experience, players can download mods that enhance the pregnancy gameplay.

The Sims 4: Get to Work is the first expansion pack for The Sims 4. It was released in North America on March 31, 2015, in digital and physical formats for PC, and digital for Mac.[1][2][4] It includes three new active careers; Detective, Doctor, and Scientist, and also allows Sims to own and manage their retail businesses. It is a spiritual successor to The Sims 2: Open For Business and The Sims 3: Ambitions, with some elements from The Sims 3: Seasons.

Get to Work introduces brand new active careers, which are the main focus of the expansion. These careers allow the player to follow Sims to work. When the player is following a Sim in their workplace, the player is given tasks that are needed to be completed to have a promotion. There are three active careers: Detective, Doctor, and Scientist.

Get to Work was priced at 39.99 USD and 29.99 GBP at launch, the same as the original pricing of an expansion pack for The Sims 3.[5] Expansion pack prices for The Sims 4 are intended to be similar to prices for The Sims 3 expansion packs in most locations.

I bought The Sims 4 Get To Work expansion pack today and attempted to install it, but every time the installation window pops up, I click continue, and it tells me to install The Sims 4 update - but the thing is, I already did yesterday before realizing that I would even buy the expansion pack, and yet it consistently keeps telling me to install the update no matter what I do.

Because Get To Work is an expansion pack, it won't show up in your Origin library and won't even show that its downloading. Instead, you have open The Sims 4 and click the Plumbobs button on the tippy-top of the opening page, and there is where you will see that you "own" the GTW expansion pack.

@FizziestOfFangs I don't know if you've already resolved this issue since it's been over 6 months since you posted your question but I actually had this happen to me today, so just in case anyone else has this issue in the future, I'll post my solution. Just a bit of background: I had to uninstall my game then reinstall and found that uninstalling the base game had also uninstalled the Get to Work pack. I also bought my game online and, as you said, the GtW pack is not visible in the library so I did a little searching around on Origin and I found out how to reinstall the GtW pack (and this probably works for any other pack for that matter). I was on the Origin application (on the computer) and this is what I did:

(ONLY IF YOU HAVE THE DISC) It is actually very simple, you first must insert your disc. Then open Origin, next go to the top bar and move your cursor on "Origin". The click on "Redeem Product Code...", then type in your code. Once you have typed in your code and it verify's, then click on "My Game Library". Select "The Sims 4", next go down to "Extra Content". Scroll down until you see "The Sims 4 Get To Work". You should see the an orange download button above "Purchase as a gift $39.99". Then click on download and it should start to download! Enjoy your new expansion pack! :eahigh_file:

Doctor, Detective, and Scientist are all featured in the EP. Players get to choose whether they follow their Sim to work and take control or not. This offers you some flexibility in play. However, to really get promotions effectively, you'll need to assume control. Players can extend the work day by up to 2 hours by clicking the meter at top left, which is also used to leave work early.

Doctor Career Features

The Doctor Career requires the most work out of a player of all three Active Careers. You will need to determine which disease a patient has, based on their visual symptoms and the tests you perform. You can read a full Guide to the Doctor Career here.

Detective Career Features

The Detective Career starts with some low level work but grows to allow your Sim to fully pursue criminals and solve their crimes. You will eventually take on your own cases and get to interrogate suspects in order to get confessions. Here's a full guide to the Detective Career

Scientist Career Features

The Scientist Career is the easiest of the three, but offers the biggest rewards! You will have Eureka! moments when your Sim has had a breakthrough, then get to build a new design using the invention constructor. This one offers a good deal of freedom when at work, but if you're pushing for promotions you must follow objectives. Learn more in the guide to the Scientist Career. ff782bc1db
