Architectural Thinking

EA is the result of endless navigation of a transition pathway through tensions between the old (reliability, safety, efficiency etc) vs new (experiment, experience, etc) values/beliefs such that they are never fully resolved but must be reconciled moment by moment without losing sight of the goal, yet the results are reinforcing, maintaining its integrity as new patterns are formed – in the way that a seed does, making sure that as it grows it becomes more like itself and does not turn into something else.

This is coherence and therefore the architecture is effective, viable and sustainable - structures that can start small and stable but which can grow and stay compatible with emerging times.

This definition assumes enterprises are complex living ecosystems.
