About:
Dr Rudkin is a passionate believer in the power of information, a premise which guides his teaching and research. Topological Data Analysis (TDA) is an approach drawn from the natural sciences to offer the potential to better understand the true nature of the data held in the social sciences and finance. Intuitively, understanding data has the potential to tell us far more than statistical models, which are rooted in their respective assumptions. TDA allows the data to speak. Please see the TDA Research tab for how.
Since completing his PhD at the University of Manchester in 2008, Simon has pursued research projects that showcase the power of economics and data in addressing contemporary challenges facing business and society. The impactful nature of his work within many interdisciplinary fields has brought publications in world-leading journals such as Environment and Planning A, Regional Studies, The Financial Review, European Journal of Finance, Tourism Management, Food Policy and Applied Energy. All published papers are linked from the Publications tab. Work in progress is linked from the Working Papers tab.
Whilst much of his own work is advancing the link between Data Science and Social Statistics, Simon welcomes PhD students in any area of Quantitative Economics, Social Science or Finance.
