Commendations from students

ECMT5001 (2021s2)

Simon was such a wonderful lecturer. He was incredibly thoughtful, went above and beyond to help us prepare for our exams and really shared his love for econometrics with us. He made it seem much easier to take on such a daunting subject (for someone without a quantitative background).

“Simon is very responsible and helpful in terms of how he run this unit. When I went to consultation and exam inspections sessions, Simon always provide help patiently and tried to maximize my knowledge about this unit. He is patient, welcomed for students, and making me feel more confident to ask questions. I really got a lot of help from him, so I would recommend him for my commendation.”

ECMT3150 (2021s1)

“Simon has been an excellent lecturer all semester. He is extremely dedicated to us as students, and his passion for the subject material makes the lecturers the class very enjoyable to attend. His delivery of online lectures using slides and stylus makes the content easily digestible, and he is patient in explaining things when students get confused. He is also very generous with his time, and has held numerous one-on-one consultations to clarify concepts and explain assessments (outside of his scheduled office hours).”

“Simon is the best lecturer I ever had, he explains concepts and answers our questions very well. He always responds our questions on Ed discussion very quickly and always supports us. He is not only a lecturer but a friend to us.”

“Relative to my other subjects this semester, I was impressed my Simon's responsiveness through discussion board and emails (one night I sent an email after 9pm and got an immediate response!). Simon gave me the distinct impression that he wanted to help each of his students succeed and that made him much more approachable for me to ask questions about the material.”

“Simon is extremely knowledgeable and always went above and beyond for his students to make sure that we are well across with the materials. His teaching method is fun and engaging. Simon also replies to all enquiries on Ed and Email promptly. His work ethic and great professionalism is inspiring to all and he has made this unit of study extremely enjoyable despite the difficult teaching circumstances during COVID.”

ECON5005 (2019s2)

“Simon is the best lecturer in this semester, who introduced the mathematics in economics in an easy-understanding way. All the class slides are handmade, which must be prepared by Simon very carefully. Moreover, he invited His wife to introduce the data science to extend our career. It’s great to be the student of Simon and the photo in the final class would be my precious memory.”

ECMT3150 (2017s1)

“Was a good lecturer, seemed to care about the students and the topic, gave feedback on assignments and group projects and exams.”

ECMT1010 (2013s1)

“I believe this was Simon's first time lecturing a subject, and he did a brilliant job. This is my second year at uni and it was refreshing to have a lecturer that took the time to explain things thoroughly and in ways that were simple to follow and understand. This is not often the case! He was also very friendly, approachable and willing to answer any questions people had. His conversational way of conducting the lectures made you feel more like a peer and less like his "student". Knowledge of a particular subject area doesn't always make you a great lecturer of it ‐ but I am glad to say this is not the case for Simon, who is equally intelligent and a good teacher. I wish him all success for his future career.”
