I’m a professional musician and tutor based in Liverpool. I’ve played violin for over 40 years and taught for more than 15, including performance teaching at Liverpool Hope University. I specialise in helping adults learn or return to the violin at a steady, comfortable pace, building confidence, technique, and musical enjoyment.
I offer relaxed, structured one-to-one lessons for beginners, returning players, and those wanting to improve tone, posture, or bow control. I also teach double bass and music theory. Enhanced DBS. Flexible weekday availability.

£40 per hour for violin, double bass or music theory.
Most students take weekly or fortnightly lessons, but we can work around whatever fits your schedule.
You’re welcome to come to my place in L4 for lessons.
If you prefer lessons at your home, I charge a small travel fee depending on distance.
If you’re unsure where to begin or just want to see whether lessons are right for you, I offer a half-price introductory session. It’s a relaxed, no-pressure way to get started and ask questions. I have a spare violin for the taster lesson if you need one.
Not at all. Many of my students are adults who are either complete beginners or returning to the violin after years away. Progress comes down to practice and good technique, not age.
No. Absolute beginners are welcome. Lessons move at a steady pace and focus on clear technique, posture, and confidence.
You don’t need one for your first session. I have a spare violin you can use for the half-price taster lesson, so you can see how you get on before committing to anything.
If you enjoy the lesson and decide to continue, you’ll need your own instrument. I can recommend reliable beginner violins at sensible prices, and help you avoid the low-quality options that cause more struggle than progress.
It’s completely up to you. Adults have real lives and commitments, and there’s no single “right” schedule. Some people prefer weekly lessons, others choose fortnightly sessions, and some can only manage lessons on an ad hoc basis. Whatever your situation, we can work out a rhythm that fits comfortably around your time, energy, and goals.
Completely normal. Lessons are calm, supportive, and pressure-free. My focus is helping you enjoy the process and feel confident.
