Brunswick County Board Policy 

The goal of "taking" the cell phones is to remove the distraction and allow students to more actively engage in their learning. 

Procedure: Students are to enter the classroom, place their phone in the assigned number of a phone pocket. They may grab their phone at the end of class. If I see their phone, I simply take it and place it into the phone pocket. If the student begins to argue with me or refuses to release their phone, that is when I will call administration. Phones are not to be used or seen during instructional time. Students may have access during passing time and lunch. 

Safety Concern: The phone is in the classroom and easily accessible if a student needs to access it. If a student has a circumstance occuring and may need to check it, they may make me aware privately and I will give them access during independent time. 

With the addition of Flex Block at our school, students have 30 minutes a day to attend tutoring at various subjects. I will still stay after school to assist students. Students need to give me a days notice if they would like to stay after school to work on an assignment or receive extra help on an assignment. If a student wishes to stay after school for tutoring, tutoring starts at 2:45pm and ends at 3:30pm. Thank you!

If a particular text may be objectionable to you or your child, please contact me so that we can discuss. An alternative selection could be substituted as a directed study. The student must make the choice before we begin the unit. Various assignments will be given, so several grades will depend upon the reading of this text. The student who chooses an alternative text will be given tests and composition assignments, but will not have the benefit of class discussion. If a student has extenuating circumstances; such as, quarantine due to COVID, I will utilize a Google Meet link in order to meet with you. I can also meet with parents via Google Meet during this time. 

Students should be using Flex Block to meet with me during the school day. They may also meet with me after school as long as I have 24 hour notice.
