Do I need to be a Burlington resident to attend?
Yes, currently, the program in only open to Burlington students.
How do I start attending the academy?
The process begins with meeting with your guidance counselor. From there, we will set up a meeting with the student, their guardian, and administration.
Are there any minimum requirements to attend?
Typically, we require students to have junior status and to have passed all MCAS exams. In extraordinary circumstances, we will work out a plan with students to begin sooner.
Do my volunteer hours count as my job?
No, volunteering does not replace required work-study hours. We will ask for proof of employment (pay-stubs) before you begin attending the academy.
I work for my uncle but get paid "under the table." Does this count as a job?
Unfortunately, "under the table" job do not count as employment. We will need to see pay stubs as proof of job and hours.
I would like to begin attending, but I do not have a job. Can I still start?
No, you must have a job before you can start attending the academy.
Can I transfer into SYA classes mid year?
Typically, we like students to begin at the start of semester 1 (September) or the start of semester 2 (January), but we can be flexible with start dates.
If I begin attending the academy at the start of semester 2, will my semester 1 grades follow me?
Yes, your grade will be an average your day school and SYA grades.
