1. Information We Collect
Simmr does not store any personal data on our servers. Photos taken or selected from your gallery are sent directly to our AI processing service to identify ingredients and are never stored or shared. Generated recipes are saved locally on your device only. We do not collect your name, email address, location, or any personally identifiable information.
2. Camera and Gallery Access
We request camera and storage permissions solely to allow you to scan your fridge contents for ingredient detection. Images are processed in real time and immediately discarded after ingredient identification. Images are never saved to our servers, never shared with third parties beyond our AI processing service, and never used for advertising or profiling purposes.
3. AI Processing
Ingredient detection and recipe generation are powered by OpenAI's API. Images and ingredient lists are transmitted securely to OpenAI for processing. The images are not retained by OpenAI beyond the duration of the API request. Please refer to OpenAI's privacy policy at openai.com/privacy for full details on how they handle data during processing.
4. Advertising
Simmr displays ads provided by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers, IP address, and usage data to serve relevant advertisements. This data is collected and processed by Google under their own privacy policy. Please refer to Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy for full details. You can opt out of personalised ads by adjusting your device settings under Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalisation.
5. Local Storage
Saved recipes and app preferences such as your chosen language and settings are stored locally on your device using Android DataStore. We have no access to this data. It never leaves your device and is never transmitted to our servers.
6. Children's Privacy
Simmr is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through our app, please contact us immediately at the email below and we will take steps to remove that information.
7. Third Party Services
Simmr uses the following third party services which have their own privacy policies:
OpenAI — AI processing of images and text — openai.com/privacy
Google AdMob — advertising — policies.google.com/privacy
Google Fonts — font delivery — policies.google.com/privacy
Cloudflare Workers — secure API proxy — cloudflare.com/privacypolicy
8. Data Retention
Simmr does not store any user data on our servers. Fridge photos sent for ingredient detection are processed in real time and immediately discarded — they are never saved anywhere. Recipes generated by the AI are stored locally on your device only and remain there until you uninstall the app or delete them manually within the app. App preferences such as language settings are stored locally on your device using Android DataStore and are deleted automatically when you uninstall the app. We retain no data about you on any server at any time.
9. Data Deletion
Since Simmr does not store any personal data on our servers, there is no server-side data to delete. All data including saved recipes and preferences lives exclusively on your device and is fully under your control.
You can delete all app data at any time by:
Going to your device Settings → Apps → Simmr → Clear Data
Or by simply uninstalling the app
Both actions permanently remove all locally stored data. If you wish to confirm that no data is held about you on any server, or to submit a formal data deletion request, please contact us at the email address below and we will respond within 30 days.
10. Security
All communication between the Simmr app and our backend proxy is transmitted over HTTPS with TLS encryption. We do not transmit any data over unencrypted connections. API keys and credentials are stored exclusively on our secure Cloudflare Workers backend and are never included in the app itself.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. When we make changes we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
