Hello and welcome to Social Studies with Mrs. Morel!
This year we are going to be learning many things about our society, the world, and our role in all of it. We will learn the concepts and vocabulary that we need to be successful in Social Studies. Like every class that we offer here at the International Student Center, this class will also be focused on learning English. The only difference is that in here we will be learning English that is focused on the Social Studies curriculum. We will go through 5 units all relating to different aspects of our world. We will learn about geography, culture and society, government, and civics and of course History. Students will become familiar with the school’s platform Verge. This is where we will complete assignments, post assignments, and participate on class discussions. My office hours are readily available through Verge as well as my contact information. Parents and students may contact me through the platform or by sending me an email. Attached to this welcome letter will be a detailed syllabus breaking down each unit. Please complete the parent contact information portion of the syllabus along with your signature to be returned to me at your earliest convenience. As for classroom rules and expectations, students will be expected to be always respectful and mindful of their peers and the teacher. Phones will not be allowed unless used for assignment related purposes. Behavior management will work on a three-strike system. The first strike will entail one warning from the teacher. The second strike will entail getting pulled aside by the teacher as a second warning. And the third strike will mean a call home to request a parent teacher conference with a counselor present. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via the means provided below or in Verge. I look forward to working with you all during this school year and hope we can make it a great one.
Respectfully, Mrs. Morel
