Teaching Assistant (Université de Genève)

Researcher in Philosophy of Life Sciences

After a double training in philosophy and biology, I am currently Teaching Assistant in philosophy of science at the University of Geneva (Pr. Marcel Weber). I have a PhD in ecology and I am preparing a second PhD in philosophy.

I work in the domain of philosophy of life sciences and the main thread of my research is the idea of “progress”, a complex idea generally defined as a directional change towards the better. This idea has several domains of application such as human civilization, technical artifacts, and the history of living organisms.

The main focus of my research is the idea of progress applied to the organic domain. My work aims at understanding whether the idea of organic progress, if carefully defined, is consistent with evolutionary theory. I am also interested in understanding organic progress in its complex relationships with other domains of application of this idea, namely with technological progress.

More generally, I am interested in understanding how "values" come into play in life sciences, especially in the domains of evolutionary biology, ecology and human health.
