" We're all breathing, so we should just be treated equally.”
“There is discrimination in the criminal justice system, which that means there is not liberty and justice for all. We all have heard about and seen examples of injustice. We had the George Floyd incident earlier in this year, that was very tough for a lot of people especially in the African-American community. This situation showed us that justice was not served. People feel like there's an imbalance of justice that's in the system.
I feel like the Police have a set of standards for the community, but when it's for them, it's limited. They get around them and go over the laws. Some teens get in trouble with the law because they don't respect the law. But, they may wonder ‘How are you going to tell me to do this but the police go and do the wrong thing. They are holding me to a standard but not themselves to a standard.’
Different people have different relationships with the law. Some people may feel like justice is served where other people may not feel like there was any justice given. I feel like as a country, we make the law so difficult to understand, which puts a lot of people at a disadvantage. I don't think the justice system is fair because there is a guy in jail right now for something that he really didn't do. His name is Albert Wilson--I believe and I feel like he really didn't get justice.I think that's wrong. I think if it was someone else, they wouldn't have been given the time that he received and it would have been different. So I think the justice system is just all messed up.
It shouldn’t matter what skin color you have or what race you are, you should just be treated equally. We're like the same people because we are all living on this earth. We're all breathing- so we should just be treated equally.”
