Multilingualism is a SIG-Special Interest Group of ARLE, the International Association for Research in L1 Education (former IAIMTE, International Association for the Improvement of Mother Tongue Education).
ARLE welcomes researchers, teachers, teacher educators and subject methodology teachers involved in the teaching of all aspects of L1 teaching, including language and literature. SIG Multilingualism History and Mission
The ARLE SIG Multilingualism was established in Tallinn, Estonia, during the 2017 ARLE Biannual Conference to address issues related to multilingualism and L1 education from a multidimensional perspective. The SIG Multilingualism aims to create a dynamic platform for researchers, and educators to collaborate and exchange insights on the multifaceted dimensions of multilingualism in L1 education. SIG Multilingualism also explores and researches the interplay between education and multilingualism.
SIG Objectives
Advance Research: Promote interdisciplinary and cross-cultural research on multilingualism and its impact on L1 education, focusing on policy and learner outcomes.
Facilitate Knowledge Exchange: Provide a space for members to share findings and best practices through conferences, webinars, and publications.
Enhance Collaboration: Build partnerships with other SIGs, educational institutions, and organizations to participate in a global network addressing multilingualism in education.
