I have more than five years of experience teaching geology and non-major students in the classroom, laboratory, and field. My approach to teaching and learning is student-centered and emphasizes problem-solving, peer collaboration, and experiential learning. You can see my full teaching philosophy in my Teaching Portfolio.
Physical Geology
The course familiarizes students with the scientific method, as applied to the evolution of our planet with topics of minerals and rocks, surficial and structural geologic features and processes, and emphasizes how geology is relevant in everyday life.
Earth Processes and Environments
This course introduces students to Earth processes and geologic materials with an emphasis on the scientific method and quantitative reasoning. We cover modern environmental issues including pollution, climate change, energy resources, and sustainability.
Physical Geography
This course introduces students to the processes that influence weather, rivers, oceans, climate, deserts, glaciers, and their associated ecosystems. We emphasize the relationships between humans and our environment.
Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology
This course introduces igneous and metamorphic petrologic processes, which can be constrained by identifying and classifying igneous and metamorphic rocks.
