New stuff
New stuff
I've spent so much to fund all that I do, so I feel it fair to ask for a little bit of help. Even if you can't contribute, though, you won't be missing out on anything too big! It'll be kept to pre-releases of YouTube videos, 1200dpi scans of select materials, and other nice-to-haves like that.
If you DO support me, I thank you! I haven't got any exclusive content up YET, but I'm in the early stages of planning a big video on Paper Mario which when it eventually comes out will be exclusive to the Ko-fi page for a time. Either way, your contribution will help me to pay for future scanlation and archival materials. I thank you in advance!

Trying out something a bit different here: Articles! The comeback of Aoi Shoujo Scan has a bit of an interesting story behind it, and I felt it needed a bit more space to tell. You can read it here!

Turns out that for the past while the images have been smaller than intended on these little news posts. I'm sure someone out there noticed and was going insane- but I finally noticed and went back to fix it on all the old articles.

Just an additional blurb that didn't make sense to include with the main update. But YES! My server is finally public again! Join it here: https://discord.gg/pajZWpbpUr
I never wanted to make the server private, but as mentioned a few posts back, I've been worried about a handful of bad actors showing up to stir drama. But I do not take harassment lying down! Rather than let the troublemakers impede my projects, I've added a system to filter out bots and riffraff and stuff like that.
The filter system is based on Kuriri's idea; just requiring new joins to fill out an intro post before they can access the bulk of the server or chat at all. You may also need to get my attention, but I have set the #intros channel to ping me for all messages.
My change to Kuriri's idea is that I've added more tiers- Trusted users (has 200+ messages) get permission to post embeds, and CHOU (super) trusted users (Associate or better to me personally) can read my blog and create invite links.

Lotta big stuff going on! First of all, check out the new afterword template! Very nice. It's already been used for a chapter - see Totsuzen Parallel chapter 2.
Second up, we've got a bit of a pride month special on the way! Abunai Egg Love - a Nakano Yayoi one-shot from the late 80s which is about a girl who gets genderbent by an egg. It's very gender, and very yaoi. We're only able to make use of the tankoubon re-release in Itoshi no Hero, though- I don't exactly have the Hitomi issue for this one. Regardless, in this form it's not likely to be missing anything- Still, I'll compare for differences if a copy of Hitomi Feb. 1989 turns up for cheap.
Third, we've kinda-sorta got a manga reader. (Try 'er out!) It's painfully clunky on the upload end and a bit unfinished on the user side- but works. However, I'm likely to scrap it in its current form due to fears of getting a takedown request. Currently, content is hosted within the reader itself- but I'm considering overhauling it to just use pointers to an existing manga site, since the main point is just the form factor. 2 pages at all times, just like a real book! (Or like Bookwalker.)
Lastly, we're looking to branch out from MangaDex! I've posted the first 2 chapters of Kaede Ninpouchou to Batoto, (Read here) and I'm thinking about checking Dynasty out as well, though I've never used it. We'll see where things go from here - I'm personally just afraid that the DMCA could be the beginning of the end for MangaDex.
The way I see it, copyright holders don't get their way and manga piracy (scanlation) runs rampant because it benefits Japan's image. They're hella cool, right-? I mean they let us read their manga for FREE! And it (usually) paints Japan in such a positive light, too! But the ways of Cool Japan are fading. Copyright holders are winning the Japanese government back when it comes to things like manga piracy. I would be far from shocked if, in a few years, it will be impossible for a site like MangaDex to exist. With that risk, I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket. Diversifying our uploads only makes sense.
For details on what I mean by "Cool Japan", I highly recommend the 3 hour long Moon Channel video. It's more broadly about Japanese politics & propaganda- but Cool Japan is an important part of that story. Grab some snacks and make it a movie night though, cos wow, it's a long one.

This is pretty important info regarding my ability to get anything done.
I forgot to make a public update about this until now. Ever since April 4, I have been dealing with...certain drama. I will avoid going into detail here, but the important part is that a small group of people are pissed off at me for a variety of reasons and have chosen to deal with it via intimidation tactics and threats. (For some blurbs of random context, refer to my Mastodon vaguepost thread.) As this is an issue of the personal variety and is not in itself related to my professional alias, I don't want to name names or say what exactly what has been done to myself or my friends.
However. To the bad actors: You know who you are. And I know that the troublemaker that hates me the most is also the most likely to be reading this post. SO! If you or any of your buddies decide to drag this over to my professional alias, I will at that point be quite happy to publicly drag your name through the dirt as well. And we both know that you have a lot more to lose from that tussle than I do. So to quote your own threat: How about you think twice before even I start making a fuss. Cheers!
So yes, intimidation tactics and threats. I've been dealing with things like that for the past month. As a matter of fact, I barely got the Totsuzen chapter for April out in time. Oh, and guess what, this is still an issue I'm losing sleep to. Look at when I've posted this 🙃
So yes, all of this to say that I've been unable to get a lot done. I can't promise 2 finished chapters this month, and I'm unaware for the next. Also, all of the other things I've been working on are flat out on hold. These being my custom manga reader for the scanlations site, getting an e-commerce notifications bot working, scanning a stack of manga books for future scanlations, re-scanlating Kuse ni Narisou, and any smaller TODOs like rescanning the Cho Kuse VHS covers.
Additionally, this has had other impacts. Due to concerns of one of the troublemakers possibly sneaking an alt into our discord server, (Nakayoshi Nerds,) I have temporarily closed all entry. After the dust settles, I do intend to reenable joining, albiet with restrictions on untrusted users. (hopefully with that temporary join bug fixed too.) But right now, I just can't allow anyone to join my server.

As of March 11, Cho Kuse has a complete* scanlation!
Yeah yeah, it's been 2 full weeks... I don't always remember to update this site, cut me some slack-!
And asterisk, because both kuse and some early chapters of chou kuse need rescanning. My ADF scans stiiiink, plus the former was done on a scanner that was just generally awful. Kuse's currently in the works, and I'll move on to cho kuse once it's done.
In other news, Kaede Ninpouchou scanlation has started- and not just that, so has Totsuzen Parallel! The total page counts are merciful enough that we can cover both at once. Though only one chapter each will be posted each month, as always.
Lastly, we MAY have a way to scanlate Miss Nakano's earliest works. No promises just yet, but the gist is that we may be able to obtain Hitomi photocopies. Quality's gonna sting, but it's better than where we are now: less than half of Gakuen Tengoku, nothing of Minna De...Nakayo P, and loads of orphaned one-shots of which we barely know the titles. Though I do have a few in the form of the Itoshi no Hero compilation release. Plus, we can always update our scanlations if someone sends over the original Hitomi issues.
Bonus thing, we added a My Future Translations section to the Miss Dream nav page. It's now linked in the nav bar here.
