First-of-its-kind: A world-first successful fabrication of osteogenic nanofibrous coatings, designed to promote and enhance osseointegration on titanium implant surfaces using a modified electrospinning strategy, was achieved at IIT Bombay (Nature; Springer). This work was subsequently extended to establish the first-in-class neuro-supportive nanofibrous coatings on titanium dental implants, aimed at restoring proprioceptive functionality, at IIT Bombay and later at the Tufts University School of Engineering,(influencing the ~$12.57 B global implant market 2025), with validation reported through experimental protocols, preprints & peer-reviewed publication (Springer Protocol; bioRxiv; Nature).
I am pleased to announce that my work titled "Nanofibrous coated metallic implants" has been featured in May 2020 edition of News letter, IIT Bombay !
Here is my CV. [Archived CV (January 2021)]
Two Indian patents granted to IIT Bombay based on my PhD and postdoctoral research in bioengineered and proprioceptive implant technologies:
Excited to share that my research article titled “Surgical considerations towards inducing proprioceptive feedback in dental implants” S.Das et al., published in Scientific Reports (Nature Portfolio) in April 2025, has attracted significant global attention. The work was conducted in Boston & Medford, MA, USA, and reflects ongoing efforts to bridge surgical innovation with neural integration in implant dentistry. According to Altmetric, the article ranks in the top 5% of all research outputs, with a notably high attention score compared to other outputs of similar age and source.
Key Highlights:
1.Media Coverage: Featured in 21 news outlets, including major platforms such as Yahoo! News, Heise, and Futurism, with coverage in multiple languages, highlighting widespread international interest.
2.Social Media: Engagement: Discussed by 35 X (formerly Twitter) users and 1 Bluesky user, indicating active conversation within online scientific communities.
3.Academic Interest: Saved by 2 Mendeley users, reflecting its relevance and potential impact for researchers in the field.
