2nd Workshop on Social Interaction and Collaboration in eXtended Reality
IEEE VR 2026 - Daegu, Korea
Call for Papers
Extended reality (XR), including Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR), is transforming how people connect, interact, and collaborate in digital spaces. These technologies eliminate physical distance and enable shared experiences that can overlay digital content onto the real world or immerse users in entirely virtual environments. However, as XR becomes more prevalent in work, education, and everyday communication, new challenges are emerging. Meaningful collaboration in immersive environments requires careful design to support social presence, inclusivity, and accessibility. Without considering the diverse needs of users, XR risks creating new barriers, excluding people who have accessibility issues or who do not feel represented in digital spaces. To ensure equitable participation, XR experiences must incorporate accessible and adaptable design strategies, such as customizable interfaces, multiple navigation and interaction methods, and input systems that accommodate different physical and cognitive abilities. Accessibility, however, is only one dimension of the broader concept of inclusion. Culturally sensitive design, representation of diverse identities, and respect for different social and communication styles are equally essential elements. XR environments should allow users to feel seen, validated, and respected, thereby fostering genuine engagement and meaningful collaboration. As immersive technologies become an integral part of global collaboration, it is essential to consider social and accessibility factors.
The second edition of the Social Interaction and Collaboration in eXtended Reality (SIC-XR) workshop aims to once again bring together researchers, practitioners, developers, and interaction design experts to share insights, discuss emerging challenges, and envision new opportunities for social interaction and collaboration in XR environments. The workshop seeks to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and stimulate innovative approaches to designing more engaging, inclusive, and effective collaborative XR experiences.
Important Dates
Submissions deadline: January 7, 2026

Workshop date: TBD
Each deadline is 23:59:59 AoE (Anywhere on Earth)
Topic of Interest
The workshop aims to explore aspects of social interaction and collaboration within the eXtended Reality by considering several topics, including but not limited to:
Social dynamics in XR
Accessibility in XR
Inclusivity in Immersive Technologies
User Safety and Ethical Standards
Designing for Engagement and Cohesion
Emotional and Psychological Impacts of XR
Educational and Collaborative Uses of XR
Participation and Submission
The workshop will last half a day. We invite the submission of two types of papers (not anonymized):
Regular papers: 5-6 pages (+1 page for references)
Position papers: 3-4 pages (+1 page for references)
Submissions will undergo thorough review by all organizers to assess relevance and by the program committee (two program committee members for each submission) based on their expertise fields. Evaluation criteria will encompass factors such as relevance, originality, and overall quality.
All accepted papers will be submitted for publication in the IEEE Digital Library. Submission via the PCS system is required. The author’s contribution can be prepared in English in LaTeX or a Microsoft Word template, following the IEEE Computer Society VGTC conference format (https://tc.computer.org/vgtc/publications/conference/).
Note that at least one author of each accepted paper is required to register, attend, and present their work at the workshop.
