The Sibling Support Initiative is a peer-led support group designed for middle and high school students (ages 11-18) who have siblings with special needs. Often, siblings of children with special needs feel overlooked and isolated. They don't always have a safe space to share their experiences or find support. This project was created to fill that gap and offer a place where siblings can connect and be understood. Created by the sister of a student on the autism spectrum, this project was built from lived experiences to offer connection, community, and understanding.
The initiative offers two ways to participate:
Meetings will be held for students periodically and will include group discussions, coping strategies, creative activities, and games.
A Virtual Community will open to siblings around the world, providing a flexible and welcoming space to connect, share stories, and built supportive relationships.
The Sibling Support Initiative is part of a Girl Scout Gold Award project and is committed to creating a space where siblings feel seen, supported, and empowered.
