Exploring Machine Learning and Dynamical Systems: SVMs, Transformers, and Double Pendulums
On March 12th, 2025, the SIAM Student Chapter held a student-led discussion on Dynamical Systems and Machine Learning. We explored support vector machines (SVM), transformers, and deep learning and connected these ideas to the dynamics of a double pendulum. We also shared study strategies and discussed how to approach machine learning more effectively.

The Art of Problem Solving Series
The AMS Graduate Chapter at GSU, with support from the Math & Stat Club at GSU and the SIAM Student Chapter at GSU, organized a series of sessions under the title of "The Art of Problem Solving" for those students who are interested in increasing their knowledge and wish to expose themselves to some higher level problems in algebra, number theory, combinatorics, geometry, and other areas of mathematics. During these sessions, you can learn how to use basic yet non-trivial ideas to solve somewhat unusual problems — which will feel usual and standard to you after you learn some tricks! If you are interested, you are very welcome to attend.
This fourth session will be held on Thursday 29th February, from 16:45 to 17:45, in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Seminar Room 1441 (25 Park Place, 14th floor). See you there! For more info and to RSVP, see the event on PIN at [/event/9924006]https://pin.gsu.edu/event/9924006 (GSU login required). And by the way, for the first time since we've started this series, food in the form of pizza will be provided! --- Dr. Grinshpon (mgrinshpon@gsu.edu)
