Welcome! Shute Constructionis a firefighter-owned and operated company built on hard work, craftsmanship, and the kind of integrity that comes from showing up when it matters most. We proudly serve homeowners, landowners, and businesses across Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina, specializing in concrete and fencing projects that are built to last.

Our story starts long before Shute Construction ever had a name.

Jace Shute was born and raised in Sedan, Kansas, where a strong work ethic and hands-on skills are simply part of life. From a young age, Jace developed a deep respect for physical work and practical problem-solving. He spent his early years learning the trade by apprenticing with a livestock fencing company, gaining real-world experience out in the field— HAND setting miles of T-posts, stretching wire, building strong lines, and understanding what it takes for a fence to hold up through weather, time, and daily use. That early foundation shaped the way he approaches every job today: with precision, durability, and pride in doing things the right way.

After high school, Jace chose to serve his country by joining the United States Navy. The Navy reinforced the values that still define our company—discipline, accountability, and attention to detail. It also strengthened his ability to work under pressure, adapt quickly, and operate with a standard that doesn’t allow for excuses or shortcuts.

When Jace transitioned out of the military, he continued his commitment to service by joining York County Fire & Rescue. It didn’t take long for him to realize he had found the career that matched his character: a profession built on teamwork, responsibility, and earning trust through action. Soon after, Jace brought that same dedication to the Virginia Beach Fire Department, where he continues to serve the community.
