I am a singer trained in Hindustani Classical Music (belonging to Kirana Gharana). My musical journey began at a very young age when I started learning tabla, a form of Indian drums, under the supervision of my father Banamali Das, a very senior A-grade national artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan. Later at the age of 10, I shifted to vocal music as I began my training under Sri Ranjan Mukherjee who is a senior disciple of the legendary khyal singer late Pandit Manas Chakraborty. Since then I have been practicing vocal music and even today, during a busy research career, I manage to find some time to do rewaz (practice) as this is something very close to my heart.
Although my basic training is in Indian classical music, I sing all kinds of songs ranging from semiclassical to Bollywood songs. Apart from singing, I can play a few other instruments also e.g. Tabla, Harmonium, and Guitar.
I am an avid football fan. I support Arsenal, a club that plays in the English Premier League. I also play football regularly.
I am an ardent reader of (sci-fi and crime) fictions in both Bengali (my mother tongue) and English. Two of my favourite writers are Narayan Sanyal and Michael Crichton.
