Summary
Under the direction of the Elders Quorum Presidencies, the Ward Mission Leader is responsible for leading the Missionary efforts in the ward. The Ward Council is responsible for implementing the Ward Mission Plan led by the Ward Mission Leader.
Each auxiliary and priesthood organization developed their own 2019 plan to support missionary work in the ward. Each auxiliary and priesthood organization has a counselor in their presidency assigned to be the main contact for coordinating with the Ward Mission Leader and Ward Missionaries. The Ward Mission Leader and Ward Missionaries will work with and coordinate efforts with each organization, as well as being a resource to assist them in implementing their organization’s 2019 mission plan.
Elders Quorum and Relief Society Organization
Through discussion we identified several opportunities where Elders Quorum and Relief Society Presidencies are well positioned to incorporate missionary work. See below for a summary of ideas:
Ministering Interviews
Incorporate a missionary discussion into our quarterly ministering interviews
We will discuss the “who do you know?” and “who could we invite?” type questions. We’ll work together with quorum members to help identify missionary opportunities in their lives.
We can assist in coming up with an individualized plan for each quorum member and their potential investigators involving the missionaries where possible.
We will also challenge quorum members to identify those they know who are less- or in-active members and what we can do to help with reactivation. We believe less- and in-active members may also have friends, family, and colleagues that are non-members which could provide additional missionary opportunities both within and outside the ward.
Preach My Gospel
We can obtain copies of the updated Preach My Gospel manuals and distribute to each Elder/Sister and challenge them to read through and practice presenting topics and extending invitations, so they’ll be more comfortable when unplanned missionary opportunities arise
Organize Missionary Activities
Quorum and organization presidencies can support the ward mission leader and organize activities involved around missionary work
We discussed activities such as performing missionary blitzes in some of the large apartment complexes to find and invite single members ages 31-45 to join our ward as well as find potential investigators to invite to ward activities, church services, and the opportunity to meet with the missionaries.
New Ward Member Move-ins
As new quorum members move into the ward we can share the ward missionary plan and missionary spirit with them while challenging them to invite their non-member friends (both within and without the ward) to learn more about the gospel
Ensure that ministering brothers and/or sisters are assigned quickly to help them feel apart of the ward family.
Pray for Opportunities
Every day before leaving our homes we can petition the Lord to provide missionary opportunities for us to meet those prepared to hear His gospel
Prepare Ourselves
Make sure we are living in a way where we’ll be receptive and responsive to the promptings of the Spirit to know who we should talk to and what we should say to do our part in bringing souls unto Christ.
Activities Committee
How the Activities Committee can play a role in the Ward Missionary Plan:
Before large activities, text the entire ward (not in a group text)
Provide advance notice and flyers to other committees/auxiliaries (especially mission and fellowshipping) so they can invite people they visit
Text/invite our own circles to activities (all of the ward council can do this)
Pray about and make assignments during each activity to get more/different people to come
Invite people to teach classes/skills
Provide name tags and mix people up (ice breakers)
Don’t set up too many chairs/tables to force people to sit by each other/not alone
Make sure ward council knows all the new/inactive members’ faces and names
Sunday School Organization
How the Sunday School Presidency can play a role in the Ward Missionary Plan:
Temple and Family History
How the Temple and Family History Committee can play a role in the Ward Missionary Plan:
